I'm sure both of those will do the job but the cheaper one is slower processor.. Intel i7 processor will be faster

do you really need a 17" screen? 17" laptops can be a bit bulky. Personally i'd always go for a 15" esp if you intend to carry it anywhere

macbook pro maybe? Windows runs fine on a mac if you need it

A 17" screen isn't neccessary but would be better for when I'm using something like virtual DJ, I run that with an M-Audio Xponent so don't need to touch the laptop so tend to run it in front of the midi converter. So the bigger screen has an advantage there. Plus if I'm running 4 decks it get very cluttered on a 15" screen.

The bigger screen also comes in handy for photo editing.

I guess what I'm asking is what is the best processer to have. I was also hoping someone would come on & say go to here or there as they have a deal on this & that.

The Samsung has a i7-2670QM processor in it and if you want to do photo stuff and video encoding, one of i7 processor family was built for you ! They are pretty amazing for that type of work, for most people they would be way over the top.

Have a look around on line to see who does a deal on laptops, might be worth looking for reviews on who is at the top of there game at the moment. The better half got a nice Lenvo with a i5 in it a few months ago, its powerful and made well, good screen but not fitted with the best speakers. She needs it for mainly planning maths lessons so the speakers are not a problem, further up there range they do some with great sounds.

Its worth looking at what you don't need and as its a silly to chuck money on things you will not need. Also hard drive prices are very high at the moment due to the flooding in Thailand a few months ago Seagate and WD who make most of the drives most use suffered badly.

Have a look at Dabs/ebuyer/Scan/Misco they are the people I have used without problems.

Asus make some nice stuff, also as always nothing stands still in the world of computers and newer Intel processor is due soon to replace the current 'Sandybrige' with 'Ivybrige' in April(ish). You can choose to jump in with SB that should become cheaper very soon or hang on for IB that may be a little bit better or much better...

Hummm re-reading last bit, does not help much does it !

The i7 is a quad core the other is old technology, i.e. dual core.
Some of the last hyper threading chips "E" models were nearly as fast as the quad cores (without hyper threading), so nowadays Intel have re-introduced this technology on the bargain basement chips.

I would buy an i5 or i7, nothing below that; especially if your going to be using a lot of memory / resource sapping software applications.
