Had a long chat with Simon from Aldridge Trimming in Wolverhampton this morning (very helpful chap) - the situation with regard to both chocolate brown and black beta fabric is as follows :
At this time, he has no stock of either colour be it new or repro. He would need to lay out at least £20k for the minimum production run of each colour to get it made again. He is prepared to do this but wants a firm commitment (no money at this stage) for at least 50 sets per colour which I estimate would be around 250-300m of fabric.
The only way this is going to happen is if interested people give him a call and add their names to his list - when he hits 50 he'll order the run.
Please give him a call on 01902 710805.
He did give me an alternative. If the fabric on your seats is in good condition (i.e. the face cloth has no stains, tears or holes) he can re-laminate it onto new foam backing and then re-drape your seats with it. I'm going to give this a go as despite my previous post on the same subject I'm not that good with a needle and thread ! To do the above I have agreed to take the centre sections of fabric off both my front seats, pick the stitching out and remove the old backing foam. The best way of getting the foam off I have found is to bung the cover into the washing machine on a cool cycle - the water and detergent seems to break down the adhesive. The cost of the above was actually quite reasonable - he quoted me around £100 to do the centre sections (base and back) of both front seats.
I'll let you all know what happens !
