  • NZ Mk2 Escort Build

As posted in the main discussion area, here are a few photos of my purchase this week.

    The Plan:
Prep for tarmac events, reasonably quick but above all reliable and strong!

    Time Scale:
As long as it takes...don't hold your breath!

    Request:
Any thoughts for a power train guys? remember jap stuff is easier to get here, but I was thinking Zetec on carbs? which engine number is best? on a type 9 'box ?

Well, ordered a few bits from Rally Design on Friday and incredibly the box arrived this morning (Monday) at my workshop in Auckland, NZ !!

        2 x headlamp panels
2 x AVO strut top plates
        1 x chassis strengthening kit

Have now sold the old x flow unit and gearbox, removed bonnet, boot, doors and stripped out glass units.

As I guessed, need lhf floor pan, 2 x outer sills, 2 x rear boot well repair panels. Heater bulge a bit crispy around the edges.

Would have bought sills from UK but size means shipping not economical. Have found a supplier in Christchurch NZ (earthquake zone) that seems to make a living by selling them at the equivalent of Ł45 a side

Still changing my mind every day about power plant, quite a way to go before that decision is needed though !

          Re : bluevan question....

Hope to have a tidy, strong and reliable tarmac car for a few events over here, really fancy the Targa series...especially 5 days plus between Auckland & Wellington

          Not this year though !

            Looks like good fun...

Here's a stupid question for you, do you know how many digits a Oz/Nz cars chassis number should have, I take it you cars starts CK40?

v.good 2nd hand genuine left front wing (fits proper!)

Spent this lunch time cutting out crusty headlamp panels and trial fitting new ones, so its official I've STARTED !

Well, no real progress on the car, for the following reasons....

                    Made redundant just before xmas

Have to move the Escort out of workshop by tomorrow

                    But.....

                    Got new job

Local car club member has offered me the use of a dry barn for storage of Escort and my tools for $10 (5 pounds) a week

                    Can work on car there

AND he is lending me a 4WD and trailer tomorrow to get it there

                    Always a silver lining......
