    • Engine now on the stand, had oil pump apart and as thought the relief was stuck open, gonna check bearings as a precaution and get it all back together.

Its given me something to do but I missed Quincy this morning ...

      • Well I checked all the bearings and everything is fine, noise was probably a combination of the hydraulic lifters draining and my arse twitching

Ordered all the new oil pump parts and hopefully start putting it back together later in the week,

whens the next Escort show, gonna pick ste898 up and have a run down...., any Chevettes or Opels want to tag along

Doing my head in at the moment son, seem to have a fueling problem or ignition problem now ...

Car fires up sweet as for a few seconds then splutters and goes into a spluttery tickover, seems as if its running out of fuel, if I knock it off and straight back on its clear and revs fine for a second or two then back to spluttering, even if I knock the pump off so its just running on whats in the carbs its exactly the same so I dont think its a supply problem.

I'll have another look today, thankfully the oil supply issue is resolved without drama.

                    Cheers, Paul

                    • Well finally got the car running.

What a day, started on the ignition side, plugs out and they were wet with fuel, so definately looked like a no spark issue.

New set of plugs, new rotor arm, new cap and checked dizzy timing.

Still no joy, tried a different coil, still no better.

Finally I pulled the new dizzy and put the old one in, car fired up no problem.

Inspected the new dizzy and with a rotor arm fitted and turning the shaft you could notice the shaft bent, moving the rotor arm up and down and side to side.

Result of this, when the car fired up initially the timing was right so ran sweet, then the bent shaft took over and moved the cap, lifting it off its locating lug and turning it, plus the rotor was only making contact with some and chewing other contacts. When the ignition was turned off the cap reseated itself because of the clamps, so firing up again it was back correct for timing. None of this cap lift was visible from inside the car.

So now a kindly gent has offered to take the offending dizzy to H&H to have a new shaft installed.

I just want a car that runs for the Summer ...
