shawnb's 1973 Escort Mexico
My parents lent me 1200 to buy this escort and 468 to insure it on 'L' plates in November 1987 when I would have been just 18. I kept this car for many years, doing a big resto from '90 - '93 including genuine inner & outer wings, door skins bonnet, boot sills etc. For some reason I decided to sell it in November 1995 to a local guy for 1300. I never forgot about it and often had a sneak in the ford mags over the following years to see the prices creeping up and with the intention of one day owning one again. Fast forward to November 2009 and i'm having a serious look on ebay etc at prices when I recognise a reg no. on ebay! yes it's my old mex, still with the guy I sold it to 14 years ago!!
To cut a long story short I now own it again. I had to shell out 7300 for it but I don't think thats bad considering it's condition still. It came with superlites fitted although the rs alloys I spent hours restoring came with it too. I re-restored the rs alloys and like them much better. I also came across a 1700xflow hi-spec burton built engine 20 mins from my house so got that for 575!
Happy days are here again ;-)
