|CHELT RS's 1978 Ford Escort RS2000|
|I bought car From Bristol Street Motors 1st August 1978 so have owned the old girl for over 30 years. I used the car for road rallies from 1980 untill 1984 competing in about 35 rallies and managing to win a couple of them with only 1 retirement which turned out to be my last rally.
Car spec then was Gp 1 Bilstiens all round with 145lb springs on the front and a full roll cage.
Car spec. now is still the same with the addition of Willwood 4pots and a high ratio rack.
Car was taken off the road in 1986 till 1995 due to marriage, family and having to pay a mortgage.
The old girl now has a quieter life just coming out on sunny days in the summer for a quick blast round the old rally roads in the cotswolds.
A new engine has just been fitted. Dyno'd at 152bhp with 155ft/lbs torque.
New engine spec.
Stage 3 ported and polished head
Burton high torque cam BF 134
New 45 DCOE Webers on Hiflow manifold with ITG filters
High pressure oil pump
H&H electronic ignition system
High torque starter motor
Lightened and double doweled flywheel
Fully balanced and a Janspeed exhaust manifold and system.
Bodyshell has now undergone a full bare metal re-spray and restoration of the crusty bits so should last for another 30 years at least
So there you have it, 34 year history in just a few lines of text.
Hope you find it of interest.
