  • Asking the impossible

Hello All, Am I asking the impossible, I am retired and looking for a MK1 Escort project perfectly happy with a 4 door. I realise the work involved been around rusty old cars seems all of my life and most of them were mine. Got my trusty mig welder and I like to think I am an ok welder, got plenty of time but not silly money, just looking for something realistic or have I left it to late, thoughts? thanks Richard

Much as I love my fords and I have had my mk2 rs2000 for almost 34 years, they are really silly prices for one now. You may be lucky to find a reasonably priced one but parts are also very expensive...good luck with the search

Also most people tend to check fb groups as you will see the activity on here has dropped from years ago when. The banter would be flying daily!!

Thanks for the replies, maybe I have left it to late years of to many house moves and excess amounts of DIY, searched the forums and the dreaded ebay missed a couple there I am prepared to buy a car needing considerable work but the pleasure comes from planning and searching for parts and doing the work, yes obviously the satisfaction of the end result. I am not in the position of buying a restored car but people who do will miss out on a lot of enjoyment, ( molten underseal dripping down your neck etc)
As for facebook it always seem very clunky and will never replace the Forum's, maybe for fast sales or wants buts let face it all posts disappear so quickly down the page so a build thread has no chance, yes I am old before you say it. I shall keep looking for a project otherwise I may have to take up gardening !!

I am old enough to remember someone on a tv program who's catch phrase was
            "Enjoy your gardening"

Nothing wrong with gardening, why not do both like I do. Must agree, much prefer this to facebook, easier to follow

Thanks for advice, I have dealt with car cave before but living in Cornwall now it is just to far away plus nice cars but not really projects for a person on a budget. But I have weakened and purchased a South African 4 door Mk2 on ebay not everyone's cup of tea but I am pleased.

As I said I have purchased a MK2 4door, not everyone's cup of tea, but within my budget and will make an ideal project for myself.

As can be seen it has lost its engine so I am on the lookout for an engine, 1.6 crossflow or 2.0 pinto not sure yet any in the back of your garages ??
