    So...

    Option A.

Buy a Chinese made shell that's never been near a Ford factory, built on Chinese made jigs with Chinese supplied steel, take a few parts of your rotten RS along with its ID and you still have an RS.

    Option B

Buy a minty, low mileage Escort pop that went down the Ford assembly line and was built on Ford jigs using Ford supplied panels, strip it, add the RS parts and RS ID and you don't have an RS anymore.

Got to love the classic car world

By being registered on a forum for a single model of car from one manufacturer we are all likely to have biased opinions about them as pieces of history. Not everyone will see them the way we do.

I love my escorts but sometimes we need to remember that they are just mass produced cars made up from mass produced parts all bolted together.
As early as 1974 Ford had made 2 million escorts in Britain alone.

They are not individually sculpted by an artist. The differences between models was on the whim of the marketing departments to sell more cars.

A v5 logbook isn't even issued by Ford, it is a government document put in place to make sure the car keeper (not necessarily the owner) pays tax & so they know where to send your parking & speeding fines.

I follow a guy in Norn Ireland on fb and he fitted a Chinese made roof skin, said it wasn't OE quality but good enough for a rally car.

if someone is restoring a old shell, fitting a lot of panels on the car then is there much difference as the new panels are copies anyway.

how many cars are fitted with new front ends from copied panels.

                Dave.

Its not a problem to reshell a car when you own the doner car

This has no doubt been done many times with ford service shells

I guess that if you used one on the so called replica shells then it should be documented as such but doubt if that will ever happen

No Rob I am not ,If its your car thats the doner then I cant see a problem.

The problem will be when some one uses a replica shell and tarts it up to look like some thing it isent and then uses a V5 they bought from e bay the try and pass it off as a pucker car

Remember as well if any one buys a bare shell where will they get all the bits to make it a full car again ? This is where the cars that go missing could be providing the items people need

And of course there are the shells that are for sale with no ID ,documents or tags that people sell and have oddly lost the ID for .
May be these provide parts for people

Some replys to this subject is that its gone on for years, So is it not time to try and stop the theft of these cars and perhaps it will hinder some who will buy parts for sale with no questions asked so long as they get what they need

There are many people who sell spares legaly out there but also the scrotes that will steal a car and strip and sell the bits.

Thankfull some are recovered but most just vanish for ever.
