  • Will 'the scene' get better in 2013

thoughts please guys cos I think this year has been pretty poor for various reasons, wondering if its worth getting the cars out at all.

steady lee on the 'coming out' type post

and yes im aiming to be back out to play again with the refurbished toy!

plus the more people that actually bother to get them out the better the shows/events will be rather than leave them locked up

But the show scene has changed a lot anyway , cant see it returning to how it used to be again
I just like going out for a drive in the car now days , although I am hoping to attend more shows in 2013 than in 2012

in the last few years it hasnt changed that much and thats half the problem

for the ''scene'' to get better it relays on people getting there cars out.

my personally i prefer to drive my car on good driving road rather than boring motorway or dual carriageways.
For that reason i do more local event

How can you say "is it worth getting the car out at all"

If that is your attitude then sell it to someone who will use it.

Its that attitude that has made car shows get smaller each year....take AVO Day...soo many "precious" cars that are too good to be driven to a show?

                  Get real

Get the car out or sell it.

Well said , whats the point owning these cars to keep locked away in the garage

New diff, new brakes, new engine, new spot lamp covers, maybe new tyres, new wheel bearings and fresh juice, now where did I leave that monkey................oh yes on the mountain

I'd say its the cost involved in getting to the events that's killing things, people pick and choose where they go now and petrol for one is so pricey, years gone by we have gone from show to show almost every weekend without a second thought. Tough times ladies and gents tough times

Its not so much about keeping them locked up in a garage my point is some of the shows I went to last year were not what they were in terms of people not coming and the crack not being there. I agree if no one brings the cars out then the shows will be poorer but some shows are a long way to travel and you want it to be worth it.

I s'pose I'm trying to see if we can get folk out next year to make them good again.

maybe part of the problem is lack of people coming forward to arrange rse stands at shows

Perhaps the shows should be organised at a venue where the cars can be shown properly. I've been to many shows in the past couple of years where polished and stunning restored cars are lined up....and lifeless. These cars, above most all others, are about driving and driving hard and sideways!

The shows are probably a good social gathering for the inside crowd who have a ball on the Saturday night judging by the state of many on the Sunday. But for the majority.....they can be a bit tedious. Especially those who already know their cars inside out, and then it can become a bit of a rivet counting session....which is fine.

OK, not many owners would want to take their cars onto a gravel track for fun, but a venue like Castle Coombe would allow both static display and track time...fun to do and watch and to hear!. I'm sure there are many other venues like the Coombe where track and display can be combined.

I don't agree with Russ though about either using the car or selling it. I've recently bought a stunning Twincam Escort, restored nearly 20 years ago and hardly used since. If the car had been used for the past 20 years, it would probably need another major restoration by now. As it is, the car looks new, and I'm driving it and fettling it and it gets better each time I go out in it....and it hasn't let any water in yet!

If all the cars were used all the time, they would have around 400,000 miles on the clock by now. So my plee to many is to keep your car locked up in its Carcoon, don't let it get at all damp or see daylight or it WILL rot away in 3 or 4 days, and whatever you do, don't drive it. Then in 20 or 30 years time, you'll make a bloke like me very happy!!
