  • Cheers mike

First job on todays list was to cut the gear stick hole

Then set the height i want the gear box to sit.
Once i put the mounts up on the tunnel i found that there was a bit of a gap

So i decided that it would be easier to cut and extend the bolt on mount to suit

    Then all was ok

        • I work just around the corner from Custom Cages, they had a really nice looking Mk2 Escort in there the other day.

          • Started to clean off the inside of the roof skin today so i can paint it before the cage gets here. Once i got the remnents of the sound proofing off the ammount of rust was a shock. I ended up shot blasting the entire inside of the roof

Then instantly sprayed it with oxide primer

Those pipes look like they should be attached to an organ

You could probably play a tune if they were used as an exhaust!!!

                    • little of that i know, but wouldn't it be an idea to double plate that each side ? gonna take a lot of stress and vibration in its life however good your welding is ............. just a thought

I have used thicker steel than the original mount is made from

                        • its more the "weld" than the thickness of the metal ...... just a double precaution .................. oh how we'll laugh at the first gearbox mount broken retirement ........ no malice intended

                            • What sort of lead time do you get with Custom Cages? Are they pretty quick to turn things around?

It took about two and a half weeks from ordering to it being delivered
