  • My Mk2 Mexico

... not really a "project" compared to the scale of work normally done around here I know

My plans for the car are to keep it "nice", but certainly not concours, and most importantly to drive it. I've owned a few modern "fast" cars and have come to realize that while they're fun in a straight line, to really enjoy them on the road you're constantly doing illegal speeds, and really pushing the safe limits. I absolutely love the fact I can rag the Escort at "safe" speeds! Plus of course it's fantastic fun going sideways again (on a private test track of course).

I plan to keep it basically current spec - standard, but with a 2 litre pinto with twin Weber 44s. I've had the suspension geo done and fitted new tyres, which improves things quite a bit. The carbs need a tuning so I have a session on a rolling road planned for that. Next on the list may be some new suspension components. Basically I want it to be as fun and reliable to drive hard as possible, but have no desire for big power.

Regarding air filters - I'll only be running the car in the dry on tarmac, are they essential in that scenario please? If so, could somebody provide a link to what I need please? (I googled but didn't have much joy.)

Really nice car you have there, what are the blue stickers on your Ford Carello headlamps ?

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

Lovely car mate, I'd certainly have it in my garage and I'd definately keep the stickers on it if you like them, it sets it apart and puts your own stamp on it.

                  Enjoy!

The blue on the headlights is the original "H4" sticker (oh no, more stickers!). I'm told the headlights are still original.

car looks great mate, great purchase!

have u considered giving the grill the silver detailing? Personally i think it looks right on a mex

an idea for the long term, maybe think about having a new roof skin fitted without the sunroof. It is doable, andysautobody fitted a new one on mine and it looks spot on
