This is how she sits now after some cleaning etc. You can see factory paint runs in the bay. Still unsure what to do but am in the process of replacing the brakes and have replaced all the fluids and filters and have fitted a replacement Weber, going for the big start up at the weekend!

Photo of the problem area might be useful to us here, otherwise a piece cut out from an old scrap wing might help you!

Just a little update as to where we are now. Car is taxed, mot'd and insured and has been to two local shows. All panels remain original and the paint on the bonnet, boot, roof and front wings is also still original. The doors and rear quarters may need some attention paint wise. The front and rear panels have been freshened up. We removed the interior and the floors were superb with just one bung missing, I don't think it was ever there! The front bumper was a little bent so was replaced with quarter bumpers (cos we like them). Finally we couldn't use the original 12' wheels as they were too far gone so have fitted 5J x 13' from a 1300 sport with 175/70 x 13 tyres. Anyway enjoy the pics!

Do not bastardise this car!!! Leave it completely standard it looks superb untouched and it should stay that way in my opinion!

Thanks, the paint is causing me a dilemma though. You see the bonnet, boot, roof, Both front wings, front and back panels are quite good but both doors and rear quarters let it down, no rust but the previous owner had had a go at parking dings etc. If I paint those areas then the rest will need paint and I want to keep the original paint!! What to do!

Tidy looking Escort, know what you mean about painting, I had a Mk1 Fiesta which was all original but needed some very slight areas doing, in the end I had it done.
