      Alan,

do you have LiveTraffic on your TomTom?
If yes, then the newer units also have LifeTraffic but only via a smartphone.
If not get a new one.

Yes Leon,, It has the live traffic update ,, Just thought the cost of the map update is expensive as against a new unit with free updates

Also, depending on the model, the new upgraded maps could be too big (Mega byte wise) to fit on the older models.

                          Kev,

could you do a little test please with your equipment ?
Set a destination far away from where you are, say Amsterdam.
Then after it has plotted the route see how far away from the start the TomTom gives actual traffic-info.
Just read somewhere that it only gives Traffic Info for about 100 miles around where you are.

                          Thnx, Leon.

Halfords are offering a 20% trade in with your old sat nav at the moment

Ive just got the tomtom 5000 , I needed a satnav that doesn't rely on your phone for the traffic

I was in the same predicament , keep paying £40 a year for traffic and £60 to update maps or pay £150 for the 5000 with free updates on traffic and maps for life....no brainer really
