  • My Mk1 Monza Mexico

Here's a couple of pics of the start of the restoration of my MK1 mexico that's currently with Rob @ Crannagh Auto Restorations over here in Ireland. Had a couple of people look at the car before I brought it to Rob but to be honest I don't think they had the skills needed to carry out the amount of work that needs doing. Had work done by someone else on a 1300e shell i have and christ you should see the state of it

Brought the mexico to Rob and nothing was a problem for him fierce nice fella altogether. One of his lads Martin came and collected it and they have the car for the last couple of weeks. Was with Rob last week for a look and he's some operator top quality work pure craftsman, the real deal if you ask me not like some of the clowns around who say they can restore a car..

Anyway here's some pics of the car from the original for sale ad, she was an english car originally. I bought it in July 2008 up the north in Downpatrick off an English chap who brought it over with him. It all looked good at the time and seemed like there wasn't too much work to be done to make it a usable classic.

And here it is on the way home, lucky I didn't try to drive it home (you'll see why in a bit!!)

It was Sebring Red when I got it but was originally Monza Blue, when I stripped the headlining out there was still bits of the original paint on the roof sections and above the sides of the headlining.

That's about if up until it went up to Rob, as he said himself he's never seen one go as bad! He found plate on top of plate on top of plate, as Rob said at least the car will be a bit lighter now anyway! She's a genuine mex with all the bits in the right places so I'm going to keep going with her, reshell isn't an option even though it'd be a lot cheaper .
Going to put her back to the original colour Monza Blue with the mexico stripes cibies and gt badges. I'm hoping it will be something onto this car when finished :

Here's some of the pics of the work done so far on her

cross member was welded to chassis

    hole filled in inner sill

new front floor inc tunnel made and welded to inner sill

Thats all for now but, there'll be plenty more to come

Cheers lads, it's past the point of no return now anyway ! I like sebring red but Monza is definitely the business with the white stripes

As for finding the right guy Tim, thank god or I'd have ended up in a mental hospital! Couldn't even go near the shed for two months when I got the 1300 shell back it was such a shite job . In fairness to Rob @ Crannagh he's top quality, there'll be some good pics of his work to come yet!

Cheers Aaron, I tore up the road before you got a chance You're right I haven't seen another one on the road but there's another Monza blue being finished by a chap I know you're jaw will hit the floor when you see it he's done some job on it. He's fitting the pinstripe though not the full mex stripes.

Been saving the shillings for a while now and wasted some with another muppet who talked a great talk, as for the stripes I'm sure you'll change your mind when you see this finished
