  • The corgi Harrier restoration

    Morning all I bought my Harrier back in Oct 2013 after putting lots off wanted adds on various forums, it came from a guy in Essex. The car turned up on a trailer was driven down the drive to my garage and parked for a day or 2.





    I believe i could have MOT the car with little effort, but soon decided I wanted the car to be a better standard than it was and as good as I could possibly get it doing all the work myself. The car had recently had a fresh paint job which looked nice but I new there was some issue that had been covered up.
    So the strip down started.



    The car was stripped to a bare shell within approximately a week. Everything thing being tagged boxed and stored in the spare bedroom. I had ordered some steel from a local steel suppliers to build my own rotisserie stand and the car was fitted to it.





    Cleaning started to see what I had really bought?





    I found a couple of small areas of rust in the floor but generally very good









    At this point I decided a new putter will was needed. I also new that it had had new rear arches so decided to investigate how well they had been fitted, needless to say they came off and new went on.





    New lip on the inner tube was also fitted.







    Lower wheel well cut out and new panels prepped and welded in place.







    Driver's side went through the Same treatment and panels except in addition I had to fit a new putter skin to the A Piller.















    At this point I thought I was all done on the rear wings, then I found this.it had been platted over filled and painted



    So I thought I would dig further and then found more.



    At this point if I could have bought new quarters I would have but at the time no one made them. It was either fork out £1500 ish on his when they came up or repair, so I decided to repair.









    Back to passenger side rear wing to check the C pillar. New plate cut out prepped and welded in place.



    I then removed the car from the spit and sat it on a homemade trolly built from scarf tubes. This was so that I could tackle the front inner wings, the car had previously had a light front end crash at some point but never repaired properly.





    I managed to find these repair panels as the inner wing still sports the original chassis number, all be it faint due to I'm guessing previous flatting back and painting.







    New strengthening plate made.





    I'm very happy with the results so far and will add more to the thread in due course, as I am further on with the car than the last pics show.
    I hope you all enjoy and please don't hesitate with your comments good or bad, as I'm always open to suggestions, as this is the first full project that I have undertaken.

    judging by your standards it's going to be a lovely car when done, look forward to watching it unfold

            Thanks guys for your kind words. I think sometimes jobs take quite a bit longer, just trying to work out the best way to do something. I'm in no rush as such though, so it takes as long as it does.

                Hi, It's was well worth putting this thread up, it's great seeing how you are dealing with the old tin worm that so many of these cars have. Looks like an excellent job you are doing! Stick at it getting it the way you want it because in the end it will be well worth the effort!

                      I found a little more rot around the heater bowel, and so off it came along with the scuttle grill. Area repaired and painted ready for the bowel to go back on.









                      Area all painted for added protection once the bowel is back in place. Zinc weld through primer also used on all edges.
