  • My V5c is FINALLY all ready for Tax Free 1st Apr 2019

My RS2000 SKC 477T was registered March 1979 so not eligible under the registration date for free tax till 1st April 2020

    BUT

Its chassis number UR indicates that the build date was October 1978 but on the .gov website it stated manufactured 1979

So I prepared evidence and paperwork to prove to DVLA that this typo requires altering and that come the 1st April 2019 my car is Tax Free due to build date !

Sent all documentation recorded on the 9th Jan 2019 to DVLA

Chased up 2 weeks later - told ring back after 4 weeks from sending

Rang 4 weeks after sending and got this email from THE FRAUD Dept at DVLA cio.vehicles@dvla.gov.uk !

Be warned DO NOT take this email lightly if any of you get one !

If DVLA and their verification procedure do not agree your car is what you say it is then your registration is void and you get a Q plate !!!!!!!!

My car is now verified and my V5c has been updated as requested

So 1st April 2019 my car is tax free

What does it state as year of build on V5c or .gov website ?

If it doesn’t say 1978 then Write a letter to DVLA at address below providing evidence that UR relates to Oct 78 build - send in V5c and any evidence you have - then sit and wait !

V5C shows date of first. Registration as Feb 79. Is there some on Rallye Sport website recognised by DVLA as an expert to provide evidence of a 78 build date?
I have owned the car for 32 years and would like the benefit of tax free.

              Thanks

DVLA also advised me that ALL MKI and MKII Escorts particularly RS versions WILL be passed to the DVLA Fraud Dept for verification any time the V5c is sent to DVLA for ANY change whether that be address / Taxation Class / new keeper / colour / age / engine etc etc etc

Once vehicle has been verified then they will not ask again as that V5c/vehicle will be "clean" in their eyes !

As I stated in my original post - do not take the email lightly as DVLA could easily Q plate your pride and joy

I had a similar problem last year ! But I didn't send it recorded and it got lost somewhere !!!! I rang dvla and they sent me a copy of my logbook and told me to start again !
So I did and sent it recorded this time but that got lost in the post again
This time I was told I had to pay £25 for a replacement logbook as it wasn't dvla,s fault. It was the post offices fault
Took 3 months altogether but I'm not paying any tax ever again on it
They really don't make it easy at all

This is the "typo" on the V5c that requires correcting for you to be entitled to free tax

Put yourself a letter together listing the evidence you can provide regarding your chassis number build info
                          send all documents to DVLA
                          wait
then be prepared to provide pictures (if asked) to prove to DVLA that your car is what you say it is.

                              Responce from DVLA

t may help if I explain that the current law regarding Historic tax is that any vehicle manufactured prior to 1st January 1978 is eligible for Historic tax. However, we do allow vehicles registered up until 7th January to be taxed as Historic based on the assumption that the vehicle was made the previous year.

Therefore, if you have spoken to a member and his application has been accepted and the vehicle was registered in January, then it would of been within the first 7 days of January an no later.

Upon checking the record, I can confirm that your vehicle was registered on 26th March 1979 which will be displayed on your V5C Registration Certificate. We have not received any evidence to confirm your vehicle was registered in January 1979.

As the vehicle was not registered until March, the vehicle would not become eligible to be taxed as 'Historic' until 1st April 2020.
