Probably not right to ask this on an escort site BUT"................

What are the thoughts on the best Porsche to buy for a bit of summer fun? Value for money and driver fun being the main aim

Think there is a switch on an escort fan (age related) that flips over and there is a strange draw to buy a Porsche!!!?

I would say an early 2.5 Boxster is the best value of all the Porsche models.
I paid 1500 quid for mine.

Boxsters and Caymans are the ones to buy at the moment for "cheap" Porsche fun.....Alex's GT4 not included in the cheap but definitely in the fun

Photo taken at a hotel stop near The Ring in May, a couple of years ago the carpark was all 944's, good 944 prices have now exceeded some Boxster and Caymans, the newer cars are much more useable.

My money would be on a Cayman as I'm not a convertible fan, I have nearly committed to one recently but my 944 project is swallowing cash like it's going out of fashion, they are not cars to buy and bare shell....

                    So it's down to a Cayman or a 911 4s
Is the 911 worth the extra cash ?

Don't think so mate the dealer I got mine from had 2 turbo's in both blowing boost hoses off!! He specialised in porka's and tvr's so knows all about reliability!!

I'd agree with Adrian, the arse fell out of 996 and 997 market because of the IMS , RMS and bore scoring issues, Porche even discounted bottom end units to try and calm things, there's a host of specialists doing full time business rebuilding them.

The Turbo engine is a totally different design and does not suffer from the issues above.

I would say the majority of 911 buyers prefer a C2 anyway, when I was tentatively looking I discounted every 4S.

                            Cheers
