        tonights update

as mentioned the car basically sat in my garage for the next 2 years with me being totally disintersted in it, it came close to ebay, and I started looking for another mk 1 mexico to put all my bits on (I have been squirelling bits away for years) and have a really nice collection, but it all seemed a bit pointless if I wasnt happy with the shell

I looked at a few Mexicos and when you started totting up what needed doing on them to get them to my std I was going no where

the final decison was made after going to see a Le mans Mexico with Mark Cogan (2quick4u) and Rob (Mr_Hoarder) and although it looked good when you starting totting up all the bits and what you cant see, i would have been basically starting again

Mark agreed to take a look at the sorry mex and see if he could work some magic, I was going to have just wipe the slate clean ignore all the cash the shell had already cost me and do it again

the sorry mess as i delivered it to Mark's workshop

Mark wasted no time in cutting the new wings and front valance off (both that had been ruined ) to see what delights lie beneath

        the answer was not good

yep the wings were just sitting on the top of this

inner wings were just as tastefull

at this point although it was looking pretty much a write off some of the work was of a good std eg the A posts, floors and chassis rails so another decision was made a shopping list was made up and I flexed my credit card at Express steel panels to the tune of £1500, then managed to get some express inner wings and outer wings from Darren and mark at escort tec, big thanks to them and another grand down I was

thats it for today, more tomorow including me getting very close to just scraping the lot when I hit another set back

              Thanks Graham, tonights update

the new RS wings, I bought although never fitted the guy had painted the inside of them with some weird tar like underseal stuff with the consistancy of jam, I was having no joy with this so contacted a classic car blasting company who said they could remove all this on low pressure and afterwards powdercoat the wings in an etch primer, this was quite expensive but the thought of no rust in the future on the wings appealed, so I delivered them to the company with a minty bonnet (that had taken me months to track down) and a new front valance

              and...........................

yep went to pick them up and they had trashed the lot

the bonnet which had no rust, did now have a pressed X you could clearly see on the top off it where they had hit it so hard and flexed the whole thing and worst of all they had destroyed my (2nd set remmeber) of mk1 wings which had rather tasteful ripples down the side of them along the swage line

I also discovered at this time I was going to join the divorce statistics of the uk, I had trouble dealing with real life at this time, so decided to do the only thing I could under the circumstances

I immediatley booked 3 weeks off work and moved into Mark's workshop to take my mind of Life

shame this was waiting for me when I got there

                  tonights update

I think Mark was very impressed with some of the work on the inner wings, so he cut 1 off to save them for referance

not being happy with that, he cut the other one off too

after self tapping/tacking the new inner wings on in the right place, the plasma cutter was revved up again and the kick panels were next

the car had issues with the wing rail not fitting right and the sill going under the door and drivers side and the A panel/sill/wing rail was thought to be to blame hence the incission
                  Cheers Glyn

Ah yes, I remember the inner wings, this was the only Escort I ever needed to refer to the plans and dimensions on.
I had to dummy build the front a few times, as nothing on the front was square it was almsot impossible to find a refernce point to start from that hadn't been artistically modified
