Talk about closing the gate after the horse has bolted. About time These V5s for sale will start to come down in price.

I know of 2 cars that have been off the road before 2014 ! But had the new style v5 , 1 had change of ownership in 2016 & was tax & mot for the first time since 2007 . The other car is still off the road but had a change of ownership in 2015 so has a v5 in his name

I have one i bought in 2009 that has not been taxed since 1992. When i got it and filled out the V5 i also did a SORN. When the V5 came back i checked the inline status. It was down as untaxed and not SORN. So i went to the local DVLA at the time and did another SRON via them but got told it cant be SORN'd until taxed in the new system, since 1998 i believe.
When the new V5C came out i got one for all my other cars but not this escort.
I'm expecting to have all this "prove it " carry on when i do finaly try and get it on the road

            Maybe I am lucky?

My RS has been off the road since 91, prior to sorn, so it just shows up as untaxed. I have recently updated the address (somewhat belatedly) and the DVLA issued a new V5 with no questions asked. I guess with only one previous owner from 80 to 85, my car has a very simple history and raised no concerns.

I'm only the third owner for mine and the previous two lived in the same town I've owned it since 1989

I hope you get through it ok after all the hassle. The problem is that there are so many dodgy ones around, possibly they pick cars at random to investigate.

In the eighties I spent many weekends in Liverpool and i would estimate that more than 50% of the RS2000's that i looked at up there, were made up of knicked parts from stolen cars. Many still had the rear antiroll bar in place, or the gear stick was too far forward, and probably still had a kent engine under the lid. At my work a chap nearly lost his after the police etched his chassis number to see if it had been altered, and all this was over thirty years ago. Fingers crossed for you.
