  • My mk1 73 Le mans green Mexico

bit bored, so thought i would put a few pics up of the "other" escort in my life

a lot of them are rather old as I have had the car about 8 yrs now (and never driven it )

a couple of pics of the "stunning" example when I picked it up

'nother pic from the side sitting on the farm on purchase day

when purchased even though it looked really rough I "thought" it was actually resonably solid as I started stripping it down I realised just how bad it was !

front crossmember (yep I jammed the hammer between the "new" gaps for effect) note the previous "repair" panel

car rolled onto it's side, things not looking much better !

at the this point I decided the only way to go was a thorough shotblasting !! pic taken as we removed the remains out of my Dads van, me grinning on the left hand side (I was so naive then )

starting cutting the car up at this point to discover the true nastiness

removed roof skin (didnt want a webasto) a choclate teapot for guessing all the removed panels in the background (apoligies for really dodgy pic of me in this one !!!)

more "spares" namely chassis rails up to the rear seat, a posts, inner and outer sills, floors to name a few

new expressed floors and 2nd hand chassis rails were fitted at this point (got a few looks from the weekly commuters as I rolled the scrap doner shell over in my front garden and ground those off one night )

'nother view showing new sills also fitted

good 2nd hand valance fitted from another donor shell

not long after these pics it all went very wrong and almost ended up as tin cans...........................

mark i thought you would have know what the car looks like take a look here the last two pics are good

Though it was about time i put some pics up of my mex restoration so you could all have a nose, I have had the car about 5 years, and it was complete but a total bucket when i got it, shame I dont have a scanner as I have loads of pics all the way through so far, but only later ones digitally http://awswww.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif the car started life as a 73 le mans green mex, and when I got it someone had painted it daytona with pink

this will be a rapid resto, up to a point (namely how it is now) but thought I would get thread up to date as I have actually started on it again

                          so here we go

as mentioned above the following pics are from the "first restoration"

I needed some chassis rails and a rear valance and Gary needed a bulkhead, so shopping list

                          1 off escort shell
1 off oxy acetyline cutting equipment
                          2 off essex chimps

                          and you have the result

I left the car down in Kent to be restored and was going down there every now and then to help out doing the donkey work and check on progress unfortunately this took 2 years and I was too tight (at the time to buy some new inner wings) so the when I get the car back I was not happy !

the main problem was the inner wings were a patch work quilt and the guy doing it couldnt line up the BRAND NEW wings properly so he cut an inch out the top of the them and welded one back together

                          pics of the "job"

basically this was all in 2003 I got the car back but wasnt happy with the work and I just put it in the garage and done nothing with it

little did I know then how bad it was going to get, more updates soon I just uploaded 142 pics to photobucket
                          Cheers Glyn

your not wrong Mark, I have still been buying bits for it as and when but now my Mk2 has left the garage I'm itching for an escort on the road again,

You'll be playing a starring role in the forthcoming updates
