  • My Mk1 Escort 1300 Sport Project

Just thought I'd start a new resto thread. Here's my new project car, a genuine Mk1 Escort 1300 Sport, 1st registered in May 1972, its the early model which should have the 2 dial dash & pod rev counter although the dash has been cut by a previous owner to fit a 6 dial dash.
I bought it from Vinny on here back last year & hope to make a start restoring it soon . Here's some pics of it the day I bought & picked it up in September 2011.

Oh a Mk1 Sport at last on here!...original ones are so rare now! I'll look forward to watching this thread. I had 2 Sports during the 70's and wish I had kept them both now!

Have a look at them if you like, just after half way down the page:

Cheers! nice pics & story about your mk1 sports! I've been told by a few people now that mk1 sports are now the rarest model of all the escorts.
Plan is to restore this one back to standard as its such a rare car it would be a shame to modify it, although it now has a 1600 xflow in it so i may leave that as it is but havent decided yet. I've got the original separate rev counter pod that came with the car to go back in although I've got to repair the dash & put it back to standard.
Unfortunately the early 5J steel wheels didnt come with the car but i've got a set of 5.5J Lotus steels to go on it. There are a few bits & pieces missing so the search is on for those & i've started collecting repair panels & bits for it.

                Looks a good project.I had a late mk1 1300 sport back in the 80's(TMB4M).
They were rare then and are proper rare cars now,it will be cool to see another one returned to the road.

it has hooks on the boot floor for the jack & threaded hole in the boot floor for the spare wheel,

plenty of black hammerite that needs to go!

both strut tops have been plated so that needs re-doing,

spare wheel well & tank well will need sorting,,

floors have been done but i'm not happy with them so will cut them out & do them again,

                    underneath, yet more black hammerite

rear scuttles will need work & plenty of filler to remove,
