What year did Java Green get released on Mk2 Escort? Whats the chance of a late 78 Mexico on T plate in Java?

According to the excellent book "Factory-Original Sporting Mk2 Escorts" written by Dan Williamson, Java Green was available on Mk2 Escorts from September 1979 to July 1980. The RS Mexico ceased production July 1978, so a Mk2 RS Mexico painted in Java Green is very unlikely.

Looking at my original RS Escorts sales brochure, the RS Mexico was only available in Diamond White, Venetian Red, Signal Orange, Signal Yellow and Signal Green. Towards the end of production of the RS Mexico Black was special order.

The RS Mexico you have seen may have been one of the last unsold stock registered to be "T" plated, (from August 1978). It's possible it could have been a special order from the factory for the Java Green or it's more likely been repainted during a restoration, or possibly a "Flat-fronted" modified RS2000! If you can, post-up a picture of the car.

Thanks for the reply. The car is RS Mexico on log book, 1 October 1978 registered on a T, build plate says Java. I understand that other ford colours were optional via dealer at end of production run (including a gold one).

THE RS Owners Club website quote the following as colours available
        Diamond White
        Daytona Yellow
        Signal Yellow
        Signal Amber
        Signal Orange
        Carnival Red
        Venetian Red
        Calypso Green
        Peppermint Green
        Signal Green

Possibly a change of colour and build plate.... if Java not issued until Sept 79...

Does the chassisnumber correspond to Oct 1st 1978?

I’ve never seen a Java Mexico it that doesn’t mean there isn’t one. Be good if it’s the only one. Do you know the supplying dealer as if they’re still around theymay have records. What about previous owners?

Were all these colours available on RS2000's?
