  • Big thanks to Paul Flatcap (and his Mk2)

Just wanted to say a big thanks to Paul for helping me out this summer.

First off he helped me get the best bubble arches available for my Mk1 plus a full 6-link kit. He even brought them to the mainland and delivered them to me. Really pleased with that.

A couple of weeks later we spent part of our summer holiday in England and visited Paul's. Although we had seen his Mk2 at the Lakes Tour last year, it was nice to see his car again and be able to look at it in more detail.
Naturally, Nick (13) was really happy being allowed to climb behind the wheel and get a feel for it on the first day. Although the plan was to take the car out after tea, we never got to that. Who ever knows Paul can imagine what the rest of the evening was like.

Fortunately, the next morning Paul warmed the car up and took Nick out on a lovely back road. Both had to wear a head set in order to be able to hear each other and once strapped in they disappeared into the distance.
Since I had no idea how long it would take, I decided to wait inside instead of on the street.
When they returned and came back in, Nick was smiling from ear to ear and very excited about the run. Knowing Nick, he is usually a bit shy and not that out going, I got curious and wanted to go out myself.
So I asked Paul to have another go and once out in the open on the lovely back roads the car came to life. The engine started screaming and with the revs rising I was pushed harder into the seat. Paul gesticulated to take the head phone of and I couldn't believe how much they muted the whole experience (although it was already exciting in itself).
Hearing the full sound of the engine made it an even better and more exciting experience. Apart from the noise I could feel the rear axle moving around through some of the sharper corners just before the tyres stepped a little sideways. This was my sort of car on my sort of road, absolutely brilliant and just what I needed to be sure I made the right decision by buying an old Escort.

So many thanks to Paul for getting my motivation back to continue with the Mk1. Now where is my cheque book?

    John

Just wanted to say a BIG thank you to John, Henriette and family for putting up with us for Assen TT weekend.
Even though John has a new house which he's renovating, him and his wife made us feel very welcome...........even gave us their ensuite room for the weekend.

New garage built to hold 6 cars, a ramp and upstairs for parts storage

Race day was awesome, weather was perfect, circuit packed with over 100,000 people.
I was lucky enough to be in the Rossi stand so you can imagine what the atmosphere was like.

All in all a perfect weekend.............thanks John......see you next year

                    Hi Paul,

Was great having you both here.
Hope to be over for the Snowdonia Tour and pick up the YB engine and gearbox, Escort Mk2 and other goodies you have collected for me.

As for next year, you can even choose the decoration on the walls of your bedroom.

                    John
