My wee fellow who is 12 this past year has the car bug ,he was always into cars ,rallies etc but this year hes kinda got hooked on all things ford especially the mk2 RSs but likes capri ,cortina etc its a pity that prices are now so over inflated that he will struggle to get something like a mk1 or a mk2 escort ,he loves working in the garage on the mex ,Does anybody else s kids share there passion in all things old skool Ford or for that matter any old skool motors

Sadly my kids think my car is a big no no! My Son has a 8 year old Fiesta which he uses to get him from A to B, which he will run into the ground, and my daughter has a recent new shape one which she thinks a lot more of. But classics they definately have no time for them!

My boy is 21 and currently on the **** in Thailand, then away back to Oz, he has no interest in cars what so ever, most of his mates are the same.

I think young un's these days have a totally different attitude, most get a new car on two year option deal with free insurance, don't give a **** about them then pick up another in two years time.

Old is just old to most now, they want new , modern, best in all things in life not just cars.

The get a job, car, wife, house attitude is gone, it was so 70's and 80's

Most will never own their own home or get a long service award at work, they live for today or plan only for the next few months.

Times I wish I'd done the same instead of ploughing it all into old metal.

Conversely I'd say there is a nucleus of young boys into their classics. The mk1 fiesta has a young fan base, as too the retro ride car scene is made up of mostly 20 some things.

Yeh you've hit it on the nail there, my kids are just that! Went to see my 23 year old daughters car the other day, it's a cracking used Fiesta about three years old, bought it to impresss some lad I think! She's already talking about changing it in three years time! She's quite happy renting her small appartment with no interest whatsoever of buying somewhere. She's on her 3rd job in the last twelve months too, trouble is that not enough guys seem available in her latest job!

Our Lewis is 15yrs old, he's been into old school fords a while now. He has been going to shows with me for a while now. We bought a mk1 Fiesta for him last year, he's good at looking on ebay for bits for it, but I can't get him in garage to owt

Agree with the above. My stepson is 20 and bought a 58 plate Ford Fiesta 2 years ago that he has done 17,000 miles in. His g/f has just got a new Vauxhall Adam for £120 a month.

They are more interested in holidays, clothes, nights out and hopefully getting on the property ladder in the near future.

Cars for them are a means of getting from A to B. There is no enthusiasm to own a Classic and Insurance costs have killed them buying performance cars.

For me I grew up watching rally stages & Touring Cars and seeing similar cars you could buy in local garages. The cars rallying now are so far removed from road cars that you could never own a similar car (VW Polo WRC is a prime example)

Holidays, clothes, nights out, yes I've heard it all. I too was inspired by rallys, I used to love the 70's RAC rally, I took time off work to see it every year. Even a standard Escorts at that time turned my head, there was something about them. Nothing gets me interested in the rallys today, modern cars are so boring and basically all look and sound the same. I wonder about all those heritage steam railways, how many of todays kids will keep them running in the future?

I have two lads Sam 16 and Tom 14 and there like chalk and cheese Sam has never really been in cars and his passion is Computers (design and engineering to be precise ) But now he's hitting the driving age he is starting to show more interest in cars but not any make in particular at the moment
On the other hand as a lot of you will know Tom has always been into cars especially Motorsport when we did track days he was always there even tho he was too young to be allowed on track .
He's done 3 years of concourse and not just the show days ! He's helped strip and rebuild them way past his bedtime (much to his mums horror )
And on the latest project he's learnt to spray 2pack! albeit just the underside but that really was his own doing and not staged for a pic for Facebook I have no idea how he's going to cope with some crappy 1000cc 1st car but I'm guessing I'm going to have to bite my tongue a lot?
So all kids are unique and hopefully keep are old motors going for another generation (if they ain't banned due to emission laws that is !!!!!!!)

My two stepsons are 26, no interest In cars at all ,A2B just been out to move Simons 58 plate focus, what a tip , passenger footwell full of mcd,s packaging and god knows what else, they have both wrote a car a piece of and been banned twice for DD. No wonder my hair is white .!!!
They are both in the. RAF, based at marham, Both are aircraft technicians but have no interest in anything but PC, boozing, and getting laid. ,!

They think I'm mad owning 70odd year old jeeps and messing about with old escorts. In there words". What's the point "". Mmm .

well the boys Lewis and Mitchell have grown up 21 and 25, both interested in hands on careers. Mitch has gone from growing up with the 1800 from day one to farm and tree surgery with great rewards for his hard work. Lewis loves the night life, clothing, skiing holidays and cars, he bought a Mk1 Fiesta and we spent hours doing it to how it wanted it, won a trophy at the lakes tour when just 18, he then bought a Mk1 FRS but still has the Fiesta and enjoys the cars and MX bikes. They both love the Escorts and will eventually have the Pop to do what they want with it,,,,,,,,lol. its them that are getting the car for next years 40th 18 anniversary.

Rebecca 19, my little girl has come more interested in the car, im sure she will have a say.

I brought my rs of my old man when he lost interest. Half the time he'd rather shit in his own hands an clap than give me a hand with it.

Think I abuse it a little more than he did. Heavy right foot an loads of hammer means it's only lasted me 21 days on the road

Unfortunately I made the mistake of taking my two eldest girls classic rallying with me once they reached their 12th birthdays and that seems to have had a lasting effect on both of them.
