  • Winding back the clock ..

No, not the mileometer, that's easy

So we all know from EBay etc what the current asking prices are for Escorts, but what have we paid in the past, let's see them.

    I'll start with a few.

About 1996, Genuine MK1 RS2000, two previous keepers, I trailered it home from Croydon to Cumbria, purchased via the AVO club mag for £900, it had nice Countour buckets in, 3 new genuine RS2000 wing badges still in bags thrown on the floor. Sold for £1400 as a project complete with pair of new gen RS front wings (£45 each at the time, one even came from Ford) and a nos door.

One owner from new MK2 RS2000 Custom, totally standard, mint black interior and a spare set of 5 RS alloys all with CN36's on, £800, sold in parts to North Yorkshire Rally Spares

2003, Picked this Nordic blue RS2000 literally 10 minutes from my front door, the guy even delivered it because he just wanted his garage cleared out . It was a complete running car when I got it, beautiful chocolate recaros which I believe Mr Hoarder still has, even had a set of twin 45's in the boot on manifold, full lot cost me £1200..I eventually sold it for parts.

MK2 Mexico, bought through boredom for £400, complete car in parts, brand new 1/4 bumpers in ford bags and other nos, decided I didn't fancy a Mex, sold for parts to Ian Harwood

RS2000 Custom, this car had already been fitted with new inner wings and outer wings plus a full re spray, then stood for a while, genuine 7" Ronals, leather RS 3 spoke plus a lot of up rated parts on it, I paid £1000 delivered locally, sold to Ian Harwood.

1300 Sport bought from a Ford main dealer, one previous owner....a vicar, I **** you not !!, very low mileage, 30 odd thou, I believe it was £2200, I traded my 1300 Supersport Fiesta. Sold it to a relative, shortly after it was stolen, used in a ram raid and burned out.

Paul, you owned some nice RS escorts, I bet all would be restored nowadays. I bought my mk1 RS2000 OIR in November 1988 for 1000 pounds old money but I still have it. Take care Paul

1987 and my first RS, probably strong money at the time, £4200

        [/URL]

Here's one I was selling, this car had a full rebuild with new inners, outers, front panel, doors, boot lid, rear panel, scuttle panel, all genuine Ford. Seats re trimmed in original beta cloth, running a newly built group one engine on IDF's with airbox and dipstick, all new Ford lights etc etc.... yours for £5000

My first MK2 was for sale on a used car dealers forecourt, it was a base model but someone had put roll tops in, I was buying my first house so I did a deal, the trader got my blue 16i and I got the RS2000 and £2000 cash

I know a lot of new lads hate us old timers reminiscing about the past but maybe now you can understand why we wince at the prices.

Looks like you got a few good deals there Ruddy over the years !

I got my first RS T reg Custom in Orange with a BVR fast road cam, Jan Speed etc and paid £1250 in 94, it was a little bit rusty but not that bad and had the strut tops repaired poorly. It was a present to myself for finishing my apprenticeship being on a 'mans' wage. It got nicked a few months later sadly but I loved that car..... To replace it I got another T reg that was unfinished resto and had a lot of money thrown at it. Sadly some of the work was substandard and required redoing.....Car still waiting to be finished off due to being skint /working overseas for a few years and broken promises from people who would paint it etc. Would be nice to get it sorted out soon really Did look a amber S reg Mexico that was in a salvage yard on Canvey Island in about 97-98 bloke wanted £800 or offers it had been painted and on the inside by the rear seats the paint had a big run in it and I walked away from it

PS was the white RS2 with the Group 1 parts in that Ford Heritage mag in the early 90's (photo shoot around some small lanes and on a little bridge ??? That looked a lovely car if its the one I'm thinking about.

I was amazed that a Mk1 RS2 were going for £4.5 in the late 90's when a mint Mk2 were half that....Seems the fun is going out of the cars the more they are worth. If they were £7-8K now I would have filled one full of Bilt Hamber wax and be using it as a daily driver
