  • A Kiwi Rebuild

    Hi All
I am Peter and I am currently rebuilding a mk 1 2 door race car. I have a blog up and running so you can see what I am up to at
Rebuilding a 1969 mk 1 escort race car. It started out as a fairly easy project but it is amazing what a layer of paint can hide

However what I am intending to Build is a road legal Bubble arched 1700 711m powered through a type 9 5speed into a LSD english axled 2 linked and turreted rear end. The car was purchased as a rolling shell which looked not too bad however when I started to scratch the surface well check out the blog. I am expecting the rebuild to take 18 months to 2 years. A lot of stuff needs to come out from the UK, replacement panels from expressed steel, drive line parts from Burtons etc etc etc.
    Cheers PK

      Hi all
Happy New Year to everyone I hope santa was nice to you. As for me well i had a nice vacation spent too much, ate too much and drank too much. So now it is back too work and back on to the project. I have updated the blog but not done too much the next big job is to get the old girl soda blasted and Primer painted so that i can see what might be hiding under the old underseal. Hope the year is good to you

I have finally found an area that is not rotten. Also just got a quote for replacement panels the freight alone is 390 GBP by the time you convert it into NZD I am looking at a reasonable chunk of change but it needs to be done. The latest update to the blog is up now

I am in Auckland. Your dad is lucky I have friends and family down there some have lost everything one family I know has not been able to return to their home it has now been demolished and another is living in her home of 60+ years and that will be demolished soon Fortunately part of the house is OK and she still has a bathroom, kitchen, lounge and a couple of bedrooms to live in and running water, power and sewerage. the extention that were put on the house as the family expanded over the years are the damaged parts.

Thanks Shifty I am making progress, the R/H bubble should be on tonight and Hopefully I can get some more work on the rear 1/4 at the weekend. I did some last night and it is not as bad as it appears so I may be able to salvage it yet. Next weekend I am going to the Annual Intermarque Concour's here in Auckland I was asked by my painter to take his freshly restored RS 1600 mk1 to show for the Escort Car Club so I jumped at the chance. I will post some photos of the event in a couple of weeks. Should be fun
