View Full Version : JMR425W Resto, the long haul begins
Thought i'd post a few pics of my dec 1980 biege rs2 resto.
She arrived on thursday(cheers dave) she solid in lots of places but has had a few dodgy repairs carried out so its a case of removing them and re-doing.
Still cant decide whether to change the colour (as its growing on me) but definatley going to flat front her.
Going for a nice road car and not a concourse resto.
She already has a 2.1 on 45's with billies all round, quick rack and 5 speed box so i havernt goto worry about that :D
enjoy :

just wondered what most peeps would do really kev, may be different a biege flat front rs2 ?
interior is the dark chocolate, doors cards are ok,
But have been offered a nice set of roll tops with black uncut custom door cards so the worlds my oyster :D

wheres the pictures from the weekends efforts then? cos i know you been busy boy.
oh yeah, ignore kev, keep the colour.................right :evil3: just like it says on the logbook, and on the vin plate.......
Vinny
Keep the original colour as it is on the VIN plate and log book. If you sell it in years what will the person buying it think - original RS or what  .
Dare to be different .
It may not be your first choice but after spending time and lots of ££££££££££££££££££££ on a restoration and a new paint job you may regret changing it.
But at the end of the day its your car and your choice.
All the best whatever your decision is.

You still got the black RS2K you bought last year Vin?

Shame the black un had to go, was a nice motor that.

Best of luck with it vinny!:D
look 4wud to seeing it wot ever you choose to do with it !
it,ll be another one back on the block, won't it.
well did a bit more on sunday, i started to remove the nose cone but had real trouble with the nuts/bolts between the cone and wing and becuase the nosecone was cracked and split on the bottom corners i decided to be a bit brutal with and cut the the rest off it off leaving just an edge that bolts up to the wing.
just a bit of trim to remove now and then gonna start on the welding in the boot :(

Good luck Vinny, looks pretty good to start with, retain the colour. My opinion is that, as day go by these things are getting rarer and rarer, I know you shouldn,t consider anyone else however one day you may find something else and want to do something with this one quickly, to max your return, it,ll surely be better of being the original colour, thats just my opinion, anyway, how many others do you know in your colour ?? good luck
cheers for the words lads, i'm still sure i will change the colour, iy looks like the resto will be a bigger job than i wanted so once started theres no going back, and hopefully the car will be a nice strong rust free shell and i doubt i will be looking to sell. So i dont really want to go to all that effort and end up with something i'm not to keen on (colour and interior wise) believe me i had thought of selling it on and waiting for a mex to turn up but could be waiting forever, so i'm gonna resto it to my spec and colour and be happy with it. May even arch it ;)

well took dave kings advice and bought a reciprocating saw - cheers dave :thumbright: and set about cutting off back panel and most of boot floor.
Didnt bother trying to save back panel as it was full of clag and had a lower repair skin fitted over the original one.

yep at work until after 3:30 mate
have you got a back panel to replace the big hole ?
ref the pictures I still think you are missing the complete link when you are copy and pasting it
the back end didnt look that bad in the pics mate.
the pics i just copied and pasted the link into picture thing when typin a message
tim - boot floor above the chassis rails had been plated and there was a few holes in boot floor so decided to get rid of all the plates etc and clean and protect the inside of the rails.
brian - no back panel as yet.
i simply got my mail from the uploader and copied the whole link ?
no going back now vin, get stuck in.
you may want to buy a spot weld drill bit to get the top corners of the back panel off nice and neat. theres 4 spots on each top corner. just done mine as you know vin, so give me a shout if you need any help.
keep at it, cheers.:thumbright:
cheers mark, i have a few in stock already :thumbright:
