I've just got a 1980 MK2 RS2000 Custom with a beige interior. The drivers seat has a biege piece of vinyl where the seats always tear ( where you get in and out ) this doesn't look like a patch, it looks original ( same colour and vinyl pattern ) and I wondered if it is.

I thought as much but it looks so original that it seemed too good to be an added patch and the car was only four years old the last time it was used.

I suppose its possible but I have never seen it on a Custom seat before someone else might correct me SOON

I'll post some photos tomorrow and you make up your own mind, I've never seen it before but all all my old cars bar one have had roll tops.

Had one the same on my old 1980 Custom. Think one of the last owners put the patch on to save the cloth from being scuffed/ripped.

Did it look totally original, this is stitched into the piping which in turn looks like it's never been touched? I totally agree that it's probably not original but the job is so good that it could be and that's the reason I asked, like I said I'll post a close up photo tomorrow.

could have been done professionally by a trimmer???? Mine looked good but not original.

 I've only had the thing two minutes and I'm already obsessing over tiny details.

Sorry to be a pain but can I ask another question, my car is a 1980 Custom, but it doesn't have an RS2000 transfer on the boot, should it?

Yes but not on the sides

Sean that picture of the car you bought the Vinl is onthe outside of the seats ? that I can see, and thats how it should be, I thought you meant on the lower bolster next to where your BUM would be

I thought it looked too original to be done later and it was on both sides and the apssenger side rarely tears there does it.

Anyway the car is on eBay now, I had a good look at it this morning and what it really needs is a bare metal restoration now, if it's tarted up and run it won't take it long before it starts to rot, being stored for 18 years has left it with scabs everywhere and on everything, like the axle and springs and engine etc.. like I said though it's too honest a car to just tart up and run.

My last car was an absolute minter and it has ruined me for owning another car, I heard that the lad ( from Preston ) that bought it won some working class concours awards before it got stolen but not sure how true that was.
