inner wing plates ??

If I wanted to remove the strenghtening plates from the inner wings to clean up round he edges would this be possible without ruining the wings ?

I know they would need the spot welds drilled out and then of course rewelded is this feasible (cant afford new inner wings for a while well not at £600+ per pair + fitting)

someone must remake the top plates? they dont seem to difficult to make,ive taken off mk2 cortina ones and they are only spot welded and i have a pair of ford original lotus/1600e top plates so ford must have made mk2 escort ones?
