still undecided , "ab mexico" is going to send me some pics of his infilled sunroof so im going to see how that turned out and if it looks ok i might go down the route of filling it in , if not im going to keep it i think as its far to expensive to have the roof chopped and a new one put on

thing is your never really happy with just a good clean, i know i wasnt , it just seemed the best thing to do , strip it down and start again
im in no rush to get it done , given me self at least 2 years , at the moment i just want to get it dipped and in primer and see where im going from there

dingy
04-10-2005, 20:34
Gaz if you have the car dipped and not seem welding it properly then it will be rotten within another 2....

I don't think you realise how much preperation work is involved after having this done ?

Is it going to be dipped then painted straight away ? Not this primer i mean finished and painted ?

GAZ W
16-10-2005, 15:08
Lee

not really set a budget as you allways go over it anyway , other than the prep and paint it shouldnt cost that much to be honest ,as im not going OTT with replacing al the parts , just going to clean em up and re use and use my stuff that i allready have powder coated , nuts bolts etc going to get em re passivated , tried a little trick with the wiring loom that at bought it up spotless ( cant say what that is yet though as i will get the **** taken out of me for doing it...lol) but will say if it all works when it goes back in

still undecided on the sunroof as it really does not bother me too much about it being there .

will keep posting pics as and when

Its coming on Gaz, any progress with the shell yet, ?? Im still heading for end of Jan-beginning of Feb, so as soon as its done your welcome to the spit,

GAZ W
01-01-2006, 17:13
I had someone to come and look at the shell the other day so he could give me some sort of estimate on how much it will cost me to have it painted .

he has also sort of swayed me away from having the shell dipped , he says the shell doesnt really need dipping as it is a good shell and the dipping process will not show up any more imperfections on the car other than what is visible now ...so dont know what to do now regarding dipping

He thinks i should just have the underneath blasted and the rest of the car just normal prep work ready for painting

ian parker
01-01-2006, 17:31
I think thats sensible Gaz, did it really need dipping ??, get it in the air, get on your back and start cleaning, should only take three or four months !!, or cheat and get it blasted, the reason i was put of that was that it gets everywhere, all in the chassic rails etc etc, keep us informed mate,

GAZ W
01-01-2006, 17:39
I f i dont get it dipped i was thinking of spending the money on getting another sunroof fitted , you know like the double ones you see on some people carriers

ian parker
01-01-2006, 18:08
Seriouly though Gaz, i dont want to start this old chestnut of again but your obviously taking this very serioulsy, get that roof sorted, its done and dusted then, i know its about opinions, and in mine the effort yourve put in so far, get it done professionly when the shell is being prepped, long term your be much happier i,m sure, and in my opinion the car will look alot better, you even have the benefit of being able to use a BVR,

dasadrew
01-01-2006, 18:39
Probably more RS2000's got delivered from the dealer with a sunroof fitted than with a 5-Speed box, and that dosn't seem to worry anyone!

ian parker
01-01-2006, 18:58
fair point, however there is a mechanical benefit to the gearbox and of course, you can always retain the 4 speed gearknob, the sunroof, especially the microwave versions, in my opinion, dare i say cheapen the appearance of the car. Gaz is obvioulsy going all the way, thats the reason why i would say get it done, !! so there, lol

dasadrew
01-01-2006, 19:44
Yeah, probably a good route would be a factory sliding roof like the Dodie and Boyle version. Together with BVR - mmmmmm nice!

ian parker
01-01-2006, 20:03
Yeah, as far as i,m aware, that car was the only one i ever know of with a factory glass sliding sunroof, i know there are companys that will fit a kind of Peugeot "moonroof" i think that would be better than a Webasto or small glasss eightees roof

GAZ W
01-01-2006, 20:25

Been upt to the bodyshop today to see if owt had been done to the old nail

All the front end is now on and firmly in place

The sunroof has now been filled , mark decided not to go with the full roof swap as the roof i brought (got ripped off with  ) wasnt the best of roofs to do a roof swap, and ive got to say he has made an absolute awesome job of doing it :) :) Marks work really is top notch

some more piccies to keep you upto date

Gaz - Dont want to be picky but wheres the bonnet hinges ?

When my front end was fitted we started with the bonnet being on and level with scuttle panel

Then each panel was fitted with self tappers until all panels were in correct position including putting nosecone in place as well

Then panels were spot welded to finish

Last time i was up there the panels were all in place using self tappers so i imagine that it was done the same way , bonnet hinges was on the car when it went up there so its prob all been done and hes taken em back of:confused:
Looking at the quality of marks work so far im sure hes done what needed doing correctly:)
