We thought it looked better without a scuttle so ive told em to leave it off;)
No not really....tha blasters blasted around the scuttle area fetching some paint off under the scuttle panel so it had to come off to be painted , sure mark knows how hes going to get it back on there now that area has been painted .

Is that the best place for the fuel pump though???
Looks a bit close to the axle to me, I see on one of the other threads how one lad mounted his on the rear shelf support in the boot, looked a nice tidy installation, don't know how noisy those pumps are, but it can't get damaged or covered in crap in there.
Just a thought;);)

i know it is the easest thing in the world to critisie and being a new member i should keep my mouth shut but i can't Your brake pipes in the engine bay are wrong they are run the wrong way and let the rest of the car down
what you have done so far looks stunning but the pipes let it down.
Wether you are building an out and out concourse car or just a tidy car you can pop the bonnet at a show it's attention to detail that counts.
I can imagine how you feel someone telling you to rip out something you took a lot of care in doing but its not right
myself and my friends would all say the same if we saw the car
stunning car but what happened at the brake pipes.
I know i will of upset you and a lot of other people by saying this but i had to say it
Superb looking job :D . Cant wait to see out this year  .

Not sure where you mean about the pipes being wrong ?
Here's a picture of some original pipes, and Gaz's routing looks the same to me ??
http://www.redslate.co.uk/upload/pics/brake_pipe.jpg
This is Arrons car by the way, and I took the photo as a reference for my brake pipes
I made the pipes for Gaz, and I took the lengths of them from an original set I kept of my blue RS2000.
ok perhaps im wrong, but i think the rear brake pipe should come up the right hand side of the servo bracket where it meets the bulkhead, not the same side as the front brake pipe, also the n/s front brake pipe should run in to the corner of the chasis and bulkhead,

i hope u understand im not trying to be nasty and pick faults with some one elses work just for the sake of it, the rest of the car and whats been done so far is out standing and it just struck me that the brake pipes aren't right, more fool me if the brake pipes are right and im wrong.
cheers ian

Ian I know what youre are saying that is correct for Girling type system, thats what Ive got on mine, the rear system travels up the bulkhead and goes to the near side/ engine side, and come together on the top of the brake tower as normal.
ATE systems Im not sure, I had the same conversation with Ian Parker.
Gaz has done it how he wants and looks fine to me, I dont think hes going for the bufty scene;)
perhaps in future i will keep my mouth shut
i can appreciate this car is not the same as ******** but looking at the work so far is not going to be far off and something to be very proud of
looking well that gaz keep up the good work:)
i know it is the easest thing in the world to critisie and being a new member i should keep my mouth shut but i can't Your brake pipes in the engine bay are wrong they are run the wrong way and let the rest of the car down
what you have done so far looks stunning but the pipes let it down.
I know i will of upset you and a lot of other people by saying this but i had to say it
Thanks for the info
But i am not out and out gay and little things like that im not anal about.
perhaps the info will come in handy when someone else is doing a resto so at least your efforts arent wasted.
Clean and useable is the order of the day for MY car .
And as for this quote
myself and my friends would all say the same if we saw the car
stunning car but what happened at the brake pipes.
Things like that really **** me off , this is what keeps alot of people form bringing there mk2's to the shows , because all the little anal gays criticising others pride and joy.
when i had the sunroof in it before ive heard people sniggering and and saying oh **** its got a sunroof .....
Rant over ....criticism took on the chin;) ;) :D

Clean useable few chips here and there , bit of dirt ,oil and other debris :Dwell said that man, whatever floats yer boat, it,ll be a car your proud of, and a car i,ll certainly look forward to looking at;) and BO--OCKS to the rest:mad: Gaz, what was i told to say:confused:"lets go and have a look at your then":p
>But i am not out and out gay

I wouldnt say im fully blown gay though ;)
as long as ur happy with YOUR car **** every 1 else :D
looking at what u have done to the car so far i would not call that clean and useable, i would be frightend to take it out in case i scratched it or got it dirty, that car belongs at a show imho, i assumed it was going to be a show car, not a track day car or a car to be used, thats why i said the brake pipes were wrong, if i had realised it was going to be a competition car i wouldn't have said anything because cars like that are more functional than pretty, i've been down the concourse route along time ago and wouldn't do it again, i class my car as a tidy usable car which has shinny bits in the engine bay, nice interiour and exteriour but the underneath is plasterd in underseal, and yours is to good to be treated the way you intend to imho.
p.s you can't tell me that you haven't walked around a show and not pointed something out and had a chuckel at what someone has done to their car, or in some extreme cases said wtf, but as you said quite rightly so, that car is their prode and joy.

The only time the car will be "on show" is when it is on a club stand .
As long as i own the car it will never be a concours car
The only time i comment on a car at a show is when someone has done something stupid to it like put big daft spoilers on it . never do i say ooh look at that ,that should have a black clip not a white one and that pipe is angled at 37.2 degrees when it should be 44.6 degrees .
I do know you were only being helpful and trying to put right what is wrong , so your comments are very welcome as the next thing i do wrong i might want to put right once its been pointed out to me:)
chill out gaz and get the pipe benders back out :p

The rear pipe goes between the servo tower and the o/s inner wing by the way ( on ALL of my RS2000's)
you dont want a concours car gaz there a pain in the arse and you cant go any where in them atleast youll enjoy your car dont do 500 mile a year in mine pretty sad really:(

But it will be back on the road this year regardless

Gaz, car looks fantastic, real credit to you, looks so much more finished with the nosecone on, cant wait to get ******** done this week, feel like i,m playing catch up,, well done Gaz.;)
Hey its not finished yet, got to admit im not happy with some parts , roof lining is shite cant get it to stretch far enough to go under the rear window rubber, wished i had stripped down all the front end suspension, crosmember etc again and had it all re powdercoated, and wheels are crap but i just want it back on the road and i cant throw anymore money at it just now so the litle things like the wheels will have to wait for another time .
But it will be back on the road this year regardless
Gaz I know exactly what you mean, there's a few bits on mine that i'm not entirely happy with, and wish i'd had the time and patience to do slightly better, but i'm just itching to get it back on the road (it's been off for nearly 3 years now)!! At the end of the day very few people can ever say that their cars are 100% finished, so just get it done and enjoy it!:)
looks stunning by the way, I think you'll be done before me.... just!
nice one gaz, will it ready for the tour?
Dont think it will be ready for the tour , i know it doesnt look like there is a lot to do now but when you sit down and start adding together what there is to do and how much more money is needed it seems a long way off finished .
Just getting it started and set up will prob be a couple of hundred quid, still needs hoses ..£100 , stripes ...£30-40 , MOT at least £50 , tax £100 other bits and bobs to to cover things i forgot £150 thats neary £700 just with those few bits ...so i will hazard a guess and say no it wont be ready for the tour:(

clever lad gaz
Starting to get worried now . Car is now 99.5% finished everything is on there , all fluids in , hoses on etc just needs the cam belt putting on which martin is going to do for me as i aint got a clue how to set the timing up .
Then its fire up time  and fingers crossed it will run with no leaks and everything working ok , then once its running go get it mot'd and then set up properly
so hopefully it should be back on the road by the end of june:yeah:
with the engine not being run for about 2 years have you lot got any tips on what should be done before starting and once its running ?
Turn it by hand a few times before you start it.
Looks great by the way.
Only thing i would say Gaz is the outer parts of the
rear wells need blackend
cheeRS Gary...
