The car i am/should be purchasing also has weld that you can clearly see holding the top plates on ,the seller asurres me no work has ever been done to the body ,but i see by your pics that all you have holding yours in place is the original weld marks

Hi Gaz
Sounds like you found a MKII at last !!
The RS strut tops are spot welded only.
The pic below is my strut top - it has been spot welded and seam welded.
It has been seam welded to increase chassis strength (along with the rest of my chassis)

Has the car got ALL the extra RS strengtening panels as I showed you on my shell ?
It may be that it has been seam welded.
Can you post the registration someone on here may know the car !!
yes it has all the other little tell tale signs of a rs2 shell
the reg it has at the moment is a private plate which he will be taking off ,do you know if it will come back with its original plate?
the reg number at the moment is 4777PP

If you HPI the reg 4777PP
You should find out the original reg of the car (the RS MKII)
btw - make sure you HPI the motor anyway
I have HPI'd it and all is clear HPI cannot go back as far as when the private plate went on in 1981 ,they say they can only trace plate swaps back to 1990 :-(
also the car came out of ford and went straight to janspeed for a turbo conversion , (this could explain the extra strenghening welding to the strut tops) it does not have this any more but i am getiing all the bits from the conversion ,the engine has been rebuilt to the spec stated in my other thread ,this is confirmed by an engineers report which i have read .

Itīs funny...
In Finland we have those strenghtening plates in every escort models, mk1&2, British and German made, from 1100 to RS models...
