Finally found a decent Mk2 2 door shell and as an added bonus it's a genuine 1600 sport :).
Previous owner has mucked a few bits up and its a bit rough but nothing a decent panel job wont fix.
Unfortunately I dont have the funds to make this into a fire breathing Group 4 but aiming for a fast road/club car around 130HP.
Probable specs:
Engine:
Pushrod c/w steel rods, 244 cam, head work, headers, twin 45's etc
Gearbox:
Standard Sport with Quaife Internals
Diff:
English axle, Quaife LSD and 2 Link
Front Suspension:
Standard sport struts with adjustable spring bases, Koni Inserts, adjustable tops.
Rear Suspension:
Reset Springs, lowering blocks and 2 link
Brakes front:
M19 calipers with spacer kit and vented disks.
Brakes rear:
Standard 9" drums with decent pads.

What am I missing? Any other suggestions?
Want to stick with "period modifications" as will hopefully do some classic events in the future.

Thanks
Mike

First whole day pulling car apart. Floorpan is is pretty good nick with only a couple of repairs from previous owners. Boot area is really tidy.
I really hate scraping body seal!...

I'm in Waiuku - not too far from you.
What projects have you got on the go?

I think the diesel trick mentioned by the guys on here makes the job slightly easier - but it's still a s*@! of a job.
Going to attack the underside during the Xmas break :(. Gotta keep telling myself it'll be worth it in the end!..

Apart from your MK1 "Kiwi Rebuild" off course!

hi m8 a just cleaned under a escort a few weeks ago.a used a scraper then washed with thinners .
called spray gun wash .hope this helps.
but if u have thick underseal in inner wings and rear wheel archs u will need to use a grinder with a wire disc .or a needle gun which works of a air compresser.

Thanks for that. Do the needle guns (scalers) cause any panel damage or is the impact adjustable to suit.

hi sorry for late reply.
no if it a needle gun over more than a foot long will do the trick no worries.
a even used one a foot and a half long on a lorry chassi and it did the job mint .
saves getting it sandblasted if u dont have actcess to one.

foot size am going by ur foot wear lol.
keep up the good work on ur project.

ie just use needle gun for underneath ur car .not on body panels ok.

Thanks Bluevan for the advice. Turns out heat gun, wire brush and scraper worked out OK.

Started stripping all paintwork back to metal the old fashioned way.
A few old patches which are OK still. Front guards will probably be replaced along with slam and front panel. Not cheap here in NZ!..

The TS 185 (locally known as a mudbug) is purely a farm hack - no restore in sight!..
Between the escort and 3 motox bikes, I think i've got enough to do anyway. When you back in NZ?

All stripped and off to the panelbeaters for:
- New slam panel and front panel
- New drivers floor
- AVO strut top plates
- Dreaded tim worm around door hinges and usual places.

Said this last time but next rebuild, I'm gone to get it sand/soda blasted!.. Forgotten how many painted surfaces there are.
