38 DGAS fuel lines

I've fitted a 38 dgas to my pinto but the return line to tank off the carb has been plugged and the return line on the inner wing has also been plugged. Should the carb be piped up with the fuel return line all complete, or is it ok running sealed off?

Is ok sealed off; the return is there no prevent the fuel getting too hot (constant flow of cold petrol from tank) which could lead to an air-lock in the petrolline.
