Hi everyone :)

I bought my 1977 Mk2 last December. A restoration was done by its ex-owner nearly 3 years ago but I decided to remove its custom bodywork. First, I changed the diff (was an awfull 3.44) with 3.89 (9/35).
I bought 5 speed gearbox. Now, the bodywork is nearly finished. Next task is the paint job.

Some pictures from the beginning...

Well, it was adapted from a FIAT 131. Functional but not original. I found one or two boot floors from breakers but those were too expensive :( Finally decided to make it by hand :)

It is aluminium but I'm still working on it. It will be better (I hope). The gauges are water temp, battery and oil pressure. The switches are, from left to right, red is ignition, first toggle switch is headlights, then heater, flasher, rear window heater, wipers etc.)

Hi everyone :)

I think I got a problem with my new front fenders. One of them is original FOMOCO but the other (right one) is not. In the below pics you can see the grooves. So, do you have any idea about how to make both grooves the same without removing the fenders? (I don't want to remove them again).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v623/phantom_r32/leftfender.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v623/phantom_r32/rightfender.jpg

Btw, the bodywork is almost finished :) I am going to replace the body rocker panel (left side - don't know if the name is correct) I think it's in a poor condition.

Great job keep the pics coming.

The only advice I would give is take your time and take lots of it at this stage. Time spent on detail now will be well spent. So many times, myself included, that you are just busting to see the final color on it and you take short cuts or rush it. Then reget it for as loong as you own the car!

:bounce:

phantom_r32
25-09-2005, 08:17
Well, I'm trying my best and thinking about the details all the time. I am still trying to find original parts. This is really hard in Turkey because there is almost no mk2's left here but I've learned alot from here. This is the best mk2 BB i've ever seen. Thanks everyone.

phantom_r32,

Looking good.

Must be tough when parts are scarce etc.?

I have a couple of questions if u dont mind.

The sump.......whats that from?

AND

The black spots...what are they?

[shrinking??????????]

james cruise
25-09-2005, 15:50
I think the spots are from one of
those spot guns that puts things
like pop rivets on to the body so
a sliding hammer can pull out the dents
i think.

phantom_r32
25-09-2005, 16:06
The sump is custom made because the engine was from an old Taunus (Cortina mk5) but we couldn't fit the engine over the crossmember so half of the sump is different.

Yes, the black spots on the panels are shrinkage spots :)

phantom_r32
25-09-2005, 16:12
The defects on the panels are corrected by heating it with a welding torch and as James said, before cooling, it is hammered.

I think you're talking about the old pictures. The arches was custom-made and the axle was from a granada. All that stuff was made by the ex-owner.

The new axle is a standart 3.89

Yesterday I've completed my "primitive" control panel. First of all, I designed the panel and had it cut with laser from 2 mm stainless stell. After the upholstery fitting, I used 8mm MDF chipboard for the construction. I covered the panel with black vinyl... To be honest, I didn't like this design and will do it again later.

As far as I know, mexico models never sold in Turkey. So my mk2 is going to be unique :D :D :D .

Today I've done the side stripes (from PJG). Unfortunately, the right side was spoiled by the fuel coming out the cap :(

I made ~25 miles and had no problems :)

Can't find Cibie spots in Turkey but I've found Hella Rallye 1000 & 3000 series spots (~30 and 46 Pounds/pair respectively). What's your advice?

Many thanks

I'd put what you want on. It's your car.
But if you do want Cibi's and they do look god on Mk2's then ebay is a good place to find some

Thanks Brian.

I've looked for something 2000 but Hella has Rallye 1000, 3000 and Comet 100, 200, 300 series. Which one is going to fit my mex? I am not able to see Hellas as they are only sold via internet here.

Cheers
