View Full Version : Engine no. 7
Hi all.
quick update, after getting last years engine built by sombody else (properly this time) did the Cumbria run by the skin of my teeth and broke down on the way home. lol
engine has run neary a whole year! block has developed a minor crack along the outside between the oil take off and top right engine mount bolt...
she still runs fine with a little K seal to keep the vital fluids in.
car's been back on the road for 3 weeks now and i can't get the carbs set. 3x garages and still no joy, i'm gettin rid of the carbs and going bike carbs.
started taking bits off and forgot to stop. now i've got half an engine in the car and a month to get engine no.7 built up.
i'm not going mad this time lol, just a std 2.0 for now and i'm gonna work on the 2.4 later in the year.
so will i be ready for lakes this year????
will it go bang?:D
lol , just drive slower . :D

crikey you're having some run of bad luck
i thought for a minute this was a post from frosty, then i realised he's had more than 7 engines by now :D
Just got the head off, looks ok inside, will try to get block welded up when it's striped down.
got a new set of wasted valves for my fast road head and a spare set of roller rockers to go back on.
burton's catalogue's gonna get a hit tomorrow... new full set of bearings/gaskets.
just wait and see if i can get it all put together:confused:

The accelerator cable needs the same metal block on the pedal that you would use to fit the twin cables for 40's or 45's so you need to cut the tip off your accelerator pedal so you can fit the metal block, these carbs use a single cable from a bike brake system which only cost a couple pound.
Popped off to Halfords earlier and collected parts.
hope to get bits fitted tomorrow:)
early days yet but all went unexpactidly easy.
What are the plastic tube's over the carbs for???
As per call yesterday Da get it sorted matey
Just got in... not playing any more!!!
turn the key and she's just short of catching with the choke out, touch the throtleand no joy, let choke in, no joy.
squire a little easy start and she fires up and can't keep her running, feels like she's outta fuel but pump & regulator say no.
thought pump was stopping as i was cranking so shorted fuel pump to booster pack, still nothing???
she started and ran fine yesterday untill she ran dry (didn't have pumps on)!
any clues???

Make sure choke is all the way out. Have you checked it's at full choke on he carb (ie is the cable adjusted correctly) . Mine won't start from cold without it, no probs when warm. Usually only have to run it for a minute max then choke in. (Bit like trying to start a cold generator) . I used to have to use easy start from cold years ago until i adjusted my cable. Also what pump are you using ? If not a bike pump, make sure regulator is set at 3psi. Bike pump self regulates !
try / check the fuel pumps/ regulator Da

Cheerse guys;)
Turns out i've got a dodgy regulator (poss why Engine no. 6 was running the way it was)
bypassed the regulator last night and ran directly off pump.
started first time and ran sweet untill it flooded.:D
now got new regulator, gauge and in line filter ready to fit.
insurance runs out Saturday so more money to pay out:(
