Hi
As a few people on here know I became the owner of the ex MAD4IT Nordic Blue RS in September last year after it had a brief stop over at Warringtonto warm the carcoon before ******** took up residence.
After a mechanical refurb which included axle out and the fitting of new rose joints ,bushes, rear discs and pads ,front TCA's , TRE's Front Pads and the 45 carbs serviced by HowieRPM along with a new Dizzy with electronic ignition she went straight through the test after 6 years off the road.
I was aware of some of the Ford Rash on the front wings when I bought her and considered having it removed and repaired however after some thought I decided it would be best in the long run to bite the bullet and sod the budget and have some new wings and wing rails fitted ,hoewever as is always the case you find additional issues when you get the outer panels removed so the resto has increased somewhat to include A post repairs and new splash panels on each side plus front panel headlight panels to replace.Considering the car is on original wings and has not had any splash panel repairs in the past the condition is not too bad ,it would not have needed any work if the wing to A Posts had been sealed correctly when originally built.
I have posted some Pics taken on Saturday when Nosecone removed and from today when the wings have been removed ,the chap that is doing the work is going to take pics of the progress with the repairs next week and hopes to have it all back together and painted within a week.
Been a while since I posted in a Resto Thread so hope things come out ok .

cheers Carl
As I said to you before my days of doing bodywork to any great extent are over I had my fill on the last Rally car , I decided it would be better to earn the money on this one and pay someone who knows what they are doing instead of Fcuking it up myself :D

Thanks Dave
My Missus says it looks like "Invalid Chariot" Blue :(
As you know I am not into the Buffty thing ( don't have the required shorts ,sandals and legs to make it in Concours :D) it will have all the rot removed new pannels fitted painted with zinc then lashings of underseal and waxoyl and the same on the underside
I will post some more pics when I get them off the Bodyshop.

Todays update with the panels welded in and trial fit of the wings.
The secondhand original Ford wing fits up no problem , the pattern OS one needed some slight modification to get the gap right at the bulkhead scuttle nothing too major and the swage line onto the door was spot on ,there is a sloght pressing mark along the wing top ut the fitter says will easily be blended out .
Still looking at refitting the nosecone and bringing the car home this Saturday :D

Cracking progress there. Good news on the repro wing, I got my bits from the guy from Barry, Paul the panel. After I'd spent up I enquired about the pair of wings he had, he said I could have the pair for £200, should have gone for it!!! Will the car still be home for the weekend? I'd love to know what that work cost in a garage, not that I'll be paying somebody, it'll just encourage me to have a go knowing what I'm saving.

Keep us posted on the progress bud. Best regards, Carl.

Well the car was finished today as promissed started to reassemble the front end at 10.30am and after having to take the nosecone on and off a couple of times to get the lines correct to the pattern wing ( note to anyone fitting pattern wings they do not come predrilled for the nosecone fitment ,we took a pattern off the original Ford wing that I had fitted to the NS and used a multi size cone drill thing that the chap at the garage had to open the holes up to about 10mm ) got completed at about 2.30pm and drove her home .
Some pics below of todays finishing touches ,the interior is a bit of a dusty mess though so thats a job for one bight next week.
Frosttie and Chesney better watch out or I might give them some competition this year :D and mine doesn't knock ;)

That was one heck of a quick turnaround! Great fit on the repro wing which is encouraging. Thanks for the picture update, that will be a great help for me in about 3 years. :o

If you're going to be competing with the polishing brigade I hope you don't mind me pointing something out (it's linked to my OCD). The stripes on the driver's side are too low. The passenger side look spot on but the other side is just screaming at me. I know I need help, tell me to keep my nose out if you like. :)

It's looking a million times better than mine though - nice one!

proof it CAN be done

I was off the understanding as soon as you unbolted anything big off an escort you immediatley sentanced it to a minimum 5 year stretch in "the garage" :D

quick turnround, nice one, looks good

Looking good mate , get a little twinge when I see it on here, I suppose it's like bumping into an ex Mrs that's been looking after herself, you'll always be attracted to them and wouldn't mind a go for old times sake but you need to remember why you got shut.:)
It would be nice to know if you got the rest of the bits and pieces sorted like putting the leaf springs back on and I'd be interested to find out what that motor was putting out with a decent cam/fuel pump on it. The last time it went on the rollers with the mild road cam, standard fuel pump and an air leak on the manifold it made nigh on 150bhp, with a cross drilled group one cam, the red top and the carbs sorted it should be a little better :D
As far as competing with the bufty boys there's more enjoyment to be had from driving it than polishing it in my opinion, you do what you want with it though, have fun :salute:

Thanks for the compliments Guys its appreciated .
My note re competition for the Buffty Boys was very much "tongue in cheek" Carl, not into that scene at all and the car will never be Concourse its more modified than Frosties ( but mine doesn't have a rod trying to break out :sign5:
I will have it up to Bggies within the next few months Ray to see what she is pushing out ,it is so much beter with he new dizzy and electronic ignition as wel as the cabs being derviced and balanced by HowieRPM .I have left the coil overs on for now ,the new springs are in the parts store .The main item I am looking for is a centre consol and boot carpet and maybee some decent seat belts then she will be Lakes Tour ready :D
