View Full Version : Rs1800 replica
As some of you know from a previous post, I am going to build up an rs1800 replica.
The car will be good not concourse, as I plan to use it as often as possible, including going to work and back in the summer.
It hopefully will look like an 18 but have some drive train and suspension mods.
I'd like the shell to be as close to an 18 as possible, so any tips and help would be appreciated.
This will be an 18 month thing due to finishing off another car at moment.
The shell is a 1976 aussie shell that looks worse than it is, bear with me as I start the journey.
I will keep pics coming as often as possible.

Show was ok, some nice escorts! Oh and roys tie. Ha ha!
Started to gather up some parts here are the 7j ronald I've had done
http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad270/mitchellrallying/photo-48.jpg
in the part number it starts H76 presumably this is a date/year nice if it is as car a 1976 and all wheels the same
http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad270/mitchellrallying/photo-47.jpg
steering wheel not correct I know but like these in a mk2
http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad270/mitchellrallying/photo-49.jpg
bought a grille, not bad nick, no cracks, bit of a freshen up needed.
http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad270/mitchellrallying/photo-46.jpg
also got badges, including early escort script.
http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad270/mitchellrallying/photo-45.jpg
I have seen a few early 1800's with one numberplate light in the boot, anyone know when they changed from 1 to two?
My mates son's got an Aussie mk2 and the bulkheads rot real bad so he had to chop the whole thing out . Not easy but do-able . Roll on the engine pics .

Hi Wayne,
The H76 number is just the part number, the year is in the
circle that looks like a serrated washer, looks like 82 in the picture.
Keep the pictures coming, best of luck with the build.

this rally car been a very long term project due to cost, and there are things I would change on the car now, but it is what it is.
The level of cars being built in the last 2 years has risen. But trust me this car will be no slouch!
This car is also going on a diet, using some carbon panels etc etc
I'll try and do pics of both cars as I go.
Cheers

I've got a 76 car from oz as well, I was thinking of starting a spot the difference thread, i've spotted seat mounts so far and lots of engine part differences
As a start: Seat mounts(but Aussie RS mounts are different to standard Aussie escort mounts)/Steel sump/large fuel tank under boot floor/handbrake light/carbon emissions filter/back panel same colour as car (for RS models)/rear anti roll bar/Pinto less power than european sister car/standard bellhousing(cortina)/crappy round air filter on RS models (that why I have european RS filter fitted to mine)/rear view mirror mounted on screen/fuel filler through back panel/strengthing plate on front off side from floor to chassis.
All that aside its still an escort and even though the aussie RS is a lower spec than it's european cousin it's still an RS and I never plan to part with mine (well I suppose we never do but never say never ;)).
Loving the engine for the red one  . What's that starter motor on it , not seen one of those ones before ?
Gaz, starters are made especialy for us to fit our special flywheels.
I thought so mate , it looked like a specialist part and not like the ones i've burnt out before , lol . :D
I also like the coil pack bolted on the dry sump pump and the dry sump pump running off the cam belt . Much better than the 10mm wide rubber band that my dry sump pan runs on !!!! I don't dare look at the flimsey thing as it gives me the shits , lol . :D

Cars burried in garage in an air chamber, but as weather gets better I'll post some new pictures.

The rear disc bells I am just finishing too to mate to the 280mmx28mm discs.
And 4pot wrc Subaru rear calipers.
The proflex is nearly ready for the front too.
Just changing top mounts for evo type, fully adjustable.

Looking great Wayne! The watts cover should be the other way up though - if you look on the inside, there's a cut-out - this is a drainage channel and should be at the bottom. Lockrings should be with you monday ;)
Yep, just dropped it on studs, to make sure it fit, as it's been anodised and holes a touch tight.
