We have been slowly working through the car and so far sorted. Most of this is copied straight from an email from a friend. *
*
No reverse lights.*
Speedo drive not connected behind dash.
Wheel spacer on n/s/r and nuts only go on 5mm, no spacer on o/s/r.
Steering rack spline and coupling worn out so just spinning.
O/S/R brake caliper seized.
cam belt and pulley’s *changed
*Front cross member bolts are loose due to captive nuts in chassis leg being worn. The earth wire was attached to one of these which is why it would*not start*
Floor area damaged to allow for incorrect damaged exhaust pipe.
Gear box rubber mount perished due to oil mainly from speedo drive.
Clutch pedal bushes appear worn.
Change all fluids: brake fluid, engine oil, diff oil, gearbox oil and water/antifreeze.*
No rear axel bump stops.
Rear lowering blocks (50mm) should go due to possible axel whip and be replaced with altered leaf springs this may require new rear brake hoses to calipers. Would probably raise ride height a little especially at the front?
Both n/s tyres have bulges in the side walls, change all four if keeping car. *
The bodywork is generally tidy, yes of course like most MK2’s there will be some little horror stories underneath the paintwork, the picture of the o/s/r wing behind the wheel being an example. Although there are some rusty areas under the car it is fairly sound and would pass an MOT.

*

The above list has been compiled with a couple of us flying round it this afternoon, we could well find more once the car is safe to road test and get things warmed up etc. Also once you start working on something like this then you can come across other stuff and that’s without systematically checking every part on the car.

Is the right place to post this ?

Mike

Finally got the car back last night after a serious amount of TLC. Car was pretty much a death trap when I picked it up. Thanks Paul for the lift home when I collected it, either because you knew it was lethal or not, just thank goodness we didn't drive it home.

Sheered steering rack, cross member hanging off, concrete tyres, odd size engine mounts etc etc.

Any all fettled, loads of new parts, engine realigned (odd mounts meant it sat on the p1ss)

Had a good run out last night and got it warmed up properly

What a fckin great grin, could not stop smiling. The best fun driving I have had in a long time and I will go as far to say I enjoyed it as much if not more than a private testing session recently which included a Maclean F1 which is also a schoolboy dream car

How many people compare an Escort mk2 with a Maclaren F1 as a bit of back to back testing???

Now it's sorted it's fckin brilliant !!!

good to hear its up and running and youre enjoying it,

as for the engine mounts etc, (tho i dont know what crossmember you have) all BDA road cars had odd engine mount lengths with standard member, and the engines did sit bias to the near side, this was to enable easier fitment and proper clearance for side draught carbs

Fitted world cup cross member now. Will pass on the engine mount comment. I did not know that so thanks
