12 years ago I closed the lock up door on my MK2 Mexico
today I opened the door again with the determination and promise to bring her home before this spring and get her back on the road with a few mod's as soon as realistically possible
I'll elaborate a little more on the story sometime
but for now, here's a few pics from today, I feel like I've just found an old friend :D
followed by a few of her 'back in the day' ;)
she's a Diamond White '78 model, still on original engine etc and I've owned her since 1988

thanks all ! I can't begin to tell you how elated I felt opening that lock up door today to find she was still there and looking as good as she does ! :D
just before Xmas, the loss of an old friend who was younger than me, he got me into rwd Escorts when I was around 18, started me thinking it was time....
Weird as I only found the key again for the garage around 5 days ago too and had prepared myself for the worst ! :o
Psyched myself up at lunchtime to head down there and investigate, so glad I did, 2011 is gonna be a great year !!!
jobs and circumstances changed so many plans I had for her, however now things are all good and even my family are supporting me doing this so it's all great stuff really !
even my 2 year old son points at the pictures of it and says 'daddies Mexico'
I'm made up right now

Cracking thread Sharpy - I'm going to be very interested in your progress. 12 years!! mine was only away for 5.
Whatever happened to that "embarassing things you did to RS bits"? Back in the 80's, when you could get stuff from scrapyards, I needed a replacement grille for my V reg 1600 Sport. The only one I could find (for about £10) had F O R D lettering. No bother I thought, I just prized the letters off and adapted my oval Ford badge to fit. I even took off the chrome clip on bits!

Thanks but she already had custom trim when I bought her 23 yrs ago ;)
Any mod's will be 'reversible' if necessary :)
But yes, I have always built vehicles to my own spec'. I don't personally get the buzz from the whole stock concourse thing, but I can appreciate it :D

Filters on the carcoon are far superior to the cair o port etc as are triple filtered with activated carbon inserts. Cair o port only has 2 sock type filters over computer fans so are not best.

sorted some locks out finally, but thinking of replacing the handles or at least the nearside one with Capri 'no lock' type has anyone else done this ?
found the original company who fitted my 'Yale' door dealocks, and even tho' they are no longer available from Yale, they have a few barrels 'put by' and are going to come and drill out my old ones (no keys :( ) and will leave me new keys and barrels so I can put them back in after resto' :D
put a few bits up for sale as I feel I was 'jumping the gun' with buying stuff before I even get the car back here
planning to move her from the lock up to home in June :D can't wait !!
acquired a few more goodies from ebay too !

I think it is features like the alarm LED's that should be kept.
Very period.
It is the way cars were then.
Linwood alarms, rectracting aerials etc all put a smile on my face.
You can make the car look 'new' anytime but features like these are harder to find.
