View Full Version : my first car

Thought i would share some pics of a Mk1 fiesta that was saved from the scrap heap, thanks to kev curtis for finding this 55,000 mile local car. would not start, so i believe the garage said it wasnt viable to fix. Got it home and we put in a set of points and plugs, charged a battery from dads 1800 and it went, tappets were noisy so they were done and it ran real good.
The car was in quite good condition, couple bits of grot around the rear strut towers and front wings
Plans are to strip it completely, and put arches on, but i couldnt face cutting the new wings so the standard look stays, have GAZ shocks all round, cam and x series carbs for it, pics are old so its progressed alot.
im sure youve all seen chris zetec thread, wont be anything like that but this is my first car
here goes

Used to have a crackin tip on how to fit rear shox on a MKI Fiesta

Lube the pin

Put axle stand under the rear near the shock

Put an open ended spanner between the car body and the rubber mounting arm

Lower car weight down onto axle stand

Car body "pops" the rubber over the pin

Simples

cheers dave...should have called you:D, quite a easy looking task, but there was alot of powdercoat on the pin which had to be ground off, quite a lot of effort to slide that bush on, they are set at an angle as well

Good colour choice too!! (what shade of blue is that called, looks similar to riviera/olympic in pics)

Think the insurance issue for new drivers is ridiculous though, when I was your age insurance wasnt really MUCH more than my dads and at 21 could insure my 1st RS2000 no problem. No wonder there are so many un-insured drivers eh. With it being eligable for classic insurance isnt that cheaper for you or has that loophole been burst?

car almost there and ready for mot, had a few issues with various engine noises, but looks like things were just bedding in, front wheel clips the off side front arch which needs sorting, exhaust fitment is horrible but no other option really, still want a tubular manifold

will get a few miles before getting the twin DCNF set up on,

all insured, went to footman james and they kindly took the £1900 for the year:(

mot this week and hopefully get arch sorted before any more damage to the wing,

took the car for its MOT today while son Lew is away ooop norf, had a good drive as well, straight through the mot, just have to change the headlamp bulbs as they werent quite sitting in their location slots, a couple of turns for the tracking and that was it,
had fun in the wet on the way home....just like being 18 again:)

met a guy at our garage who i havent seen for years, had a good chat, he once owned 2 RS1800s, locals will know who i mean;):)

glad to bring this bttt, went in for its MOT, flew straight through, well pleased for Lewis, this car is used every day as well
hes had some great enjoyment out of it through thick and thin, pretty good for a teenager driving an old car in todays world

only real headache throughout the year has been the exhaust, but since gary Ell has sorted it its been great.

roll on the brett simms worked cylinder head etc,

posted on behalf of Lew
