just read this on the rsoc site

It is with great regret that we have had to cancel the Tockwith track day that was planned for this Sunday, 1st august
The reason is that when we booked, we were promised marshals, but at the 11th hour, they have gone back on it and asked us to provide them. To continue would represent unacceptable risk to members and their families, and would also be a risk to the club since it does not have the resources to underwrite such a high risk.

Whilst there has been debate about how many would attend, this is not the reason for cancelling, as we have had sufficient feedback to confirm there would have been many members attending.

Please accept the Committee’s regret for the short notice, but we have no choice but to make this decision on behalf of the members and the club. Any monies paid over by members for this event will be refunded in full.

I would be grateful if those members who read this could pass it on to those who do not use the forum.

Thank you for your continued support.

A very wise choice by the rs club cannot run a track day without experienced marshalls, safety first guys

Agree as AON / Footman James will not insure me on track if it is not Officialy Marshalled and supervised.

Methinks the small print on the contract needed reading before agreeing to hire the venue !

As for no marshalls being provided I cannot believe how The RSOC expected that for £1500 the track, Marshalls and venue were all included in that price.

As this show was also not aligned to any particular RSOC regional group where were any show staff or officials coming from ? eg, gate staff, parking attendants etc

Hally - Tockwith may be an idea though for North Yorks next year - just thrash a good deal before announcing date !

I know you no longer chairman but am sure you could sort em out

Track time and a static show go together , maybe invite along all the local rsoc or other clubs to fill the place ie regional show , just had it in knockhill and it seemed to work ok . with a lot of RS track cars and 3 local rsoc club stands in attendance , and St club rwd club fiesta club mondeo club Capri club
everyone likes track even if your watching or on track .

The problem is Dave there was next to no intrest in the event as hardly any local groups had booked and the track wasnt full , so what group is going to take that event on with little or no intrest ?

Seems there is very little support anymore when it comes to RSOC events unless its on peoples doorstep and no more that £2 to get in , lol

The "Contract" for this event wasn't even received by the club until last Friday (After a LOT of chasing by myself......) Then it was only 2 lines!!!!!!!!
The original verbal contract between the club and Tockwith included Marshall's in with the 1500 price.

I still cant see how anyone "assumed" for the princely sum of £1500 was an all inclusive price

6 years ago I was paying £7000 for the hire of Bruntingthorpe when I was organising Old Skool Trackdays - This included toilets, marshals, first aiders, fire fighting equipment and public liability.

It was a nice try though and a lot of money could have been made by the RSOC but it seems too many other RSOC events are/were on in a short amount of time.

What I cannot understand also has been the need in 2010 for 4 RSOC events all to be held in the Yorks area ???

Derby Durham @ Croft
North Yorks @ Pickering
East yorks @ Elvington
RSOC @ Tockwith

Everywhere money is tight and members are choosing to go to one or two shows instead of committing to go to all shows and support shown to the Tockwith show has been dire so no other option but to cancel really.

With the exception of Tockwith, the named groups have held shows for years. It's not a new thing for 2010???

Many other groups are not interested in holding a show or simply can not afford to take the financial risk with current low attendance/interest in shows.

I agree, The date for Tockwith wasn't the best with Elvington also in East Yorkshire being the Sunday before. But it was the only date offered to the club.
Last year I attended all of the RSOC shows but this year has seen me pick and choose shows due to finances, with Cornwall, Castle Combe and Knockhill being the one's I have not attended.
Probably a good job that West Yorks chose not to have a show this year as that would have made 5 in the region!

It is not nice having to cancel an event after doing all the organisation, as there is always a lot of work involved. So hats off to anyone spending their time organising.:salute:
