It's a sobering prospect, but I doubt any party would renege on this unfortunately...:(

Would be good, but don't think it will ever happen to much revenue to be lost:mad:

But how many post 72 through to pre 85 cars are still on the roads - just how much revenue will actually be lost, I suspect it isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. Having said that I too do not see anything changing sadly.

Well we could always ask them and see if we get a reply !

Heres what I sent to them

I run a website for Classic Ford Escorts www.rallyesportescorts.co.uk (http://www.rallyesportescorts.co.uk) all our cars range from 1968 - 1981.
Will The Conservatives be reinstating the "Historic" Tax free status for vehicles when they attain 25 years old ?
Labour stopped this for cars registered post 1973 - I hope you will re-instate the rolling 25 year ruling and give a little something to many potential Conservative voters.

I think this is a nice idea Dave but I don't think any of them will want to introduce this when you consider all the taxes that are inflicted upon car owners. They just appear to hate cars and are too busy trying to save the planet!:mad::mad::mad:

Conservatives sent something through the post to me and wanted to know what I'd like them to do differently so I sent it back!

I posed the following suggestions - either scrap road tax completely and put it all on fuel OR reintroduce the no tax for cars over 25 years of age.

The Green party have stated they would scrap road tax (but increase duty on fuel to tax USE of cars, not OWNERSHIP).

Nice.
- but they would probably increase car taxes overall more than the others would...

Don't know about the rest of the UK but the road surfaces around the Glasgow area are a disgrace
Pot holes that you could get lost down
That extra long winter with ice & grit has made them even worse !!!!
How much of the renvenue actually raised through road tax gets spent on repairing / upgrading road surfaces ?????

You are lucky if I will do 1000 miles in my RS this year and having to pay 6 months road tax at the full rate makes my blood boil

Would it be fair to say that the majority of classic cars pre 1980 are only hobby cars with very limited milage ????

I'll be voting conservative anyway as its time for a much needed change :(

Excellent thread ;)

( i enjoyed that wee rant)

Please do not start talking politics its too tedious. We all know many politicians are in it for them selves- not all.

Regarding road tax just another tax on the working person.
