themexican
28-03-2005, 21:06
it needs
2 rear arches
2 front inners
doors

and bog cutting out here and there, I was thinking of stripping it seeing how bad it was and if it was ****ed sell all the parts and trim etc and then scrap the shell and learn from my mistake its my own fault for buying the fecker in the first place

Banishit
28-03-2005, 21:19

Mexican - I know its a bit late now, but if you had asked me or another member of the club could have viewed it for you as i am in Glasgow. Could have saved you the journey and your money.
Good luck with the resto plans.

Chesney
29-03-2005, 14:53
I did the same pretty much 2 1/2 yrs ago, let my heart rule my head. didn't do enough homework and bought the 1st one i saw. however i've spent a few quid, had some fun, know it'll never be concours but at least i've got one after years of wanting. My aim now is to buy a better example in the future but will keep having fun with this one until then.

29-03-2005, 18:34
you could have the last laugh yet mate if you break it and sell the parts for more than what you paid for the car

themexican
29-03-2005, 18:58

heres the quoted Spec

Here we have a 1979 Escort RS2000 Custom in Riviera Blue. Great car, mechanically fully sorted.

ENGINE

2.1 on twin forties, high-lift cam, ported big-valve head, bronze valve guides. The bottom end has been decked, lightened, and balanced, and the flywheel has been lightened. New gaskets fitted all round, competition head gasket. Brand new electronic distributor, new radiator, new water pump and thermostat, new coil, and new fuel lens. Also new engine belts. Full Janspeed exhaust. This engine is on the button and pulls very strongly!

GEARBOX

Gearbox removed and checked, third gear bearing replaced, fitted with new seals, new Luke clutch fitted, new nose bearing, and new correct oil. Box is strong and changes beautifully.

.SUSPENSION

Capri 2.8 front Bilstein struts, fitted with 190 lb springs, Rear Bilsteins.. New front wheel bearings, also front strut brace. New rear lowering blocks and u-bolts.

BRAKES, WHEELS

2.8 capri vented discs and calipers with .good RS 4 spokes

INTERIOR

RS2000 Custom interior in brown. Fitted with 3-point Sparco harnesses and series 1 RS Turbo steering wheel and fire extinguisher.

BODYWORK

Almost new front headlights fitted (4). New rear lights fitted. Bonnet pins and boot springs. New number plates. The bodywork is in general good condition but is by no means concours condition. Has small amount of localised rust spots, but nothing serious. Plenty of pictures to prove.

POINTS TO PONDER

Some trim parts missing, but I never needed them. Paintwork is fine, I think, but again it's not concours. The car has obviously had wings and arches fitted at some point, not by me, and it was resprayed prior to my ownership. This could be improved upon, but the car is solid, sailed its MOT. Usual patches of welding here and there. Any questions will be answered.

GENERAL

Generally this is a fantastic car that I have built up to use as a fast road car or a track day car. Family commitments force sale, and I have not had the ability to use the car for intended purposes. Hopefully someone can take this car on, and use it for its intended purpose! The car has 1 months tax and 8 months MOT remaining, and is 100% reliable. Lots of money spent -- I won't be able to get it all back, but I am looking for a fair price for this great car. Feel free to contact me at any time if you wish to view the car, or e-mail me if you wish to see more photos. I also reserve the right to remove this ad before the end of auction as it is also advertised elsewhere. Bidders must have at least 5 positive feedback ratings in order to buy. Serious bids only please

whoever had it did not do any favours with the inner wings looking at that pic , but other than that what is the rest like ?

themexican
29-03-2005, 21:24
There is a small bog repair on the roof that needs cutting out, it will need 2 inner and outer wings also one rear arch in the boot where it goes over the wheel and 2 rear outer arches, 2 doors ,and both sills because the welding they have attempted is terrible. The underside aint to bad its had plates hear and there but i can live with that its just the body, there will proberbly be more when i strip it :puke:
