About 3 weeks ago I had been working on the project in the garage, it was getting late, I was tired, I needed a spanner that I could not find.

I knew the spanner would be at my mates so I exited the garage and made my way to our back door, now usually I will take my boots off, walk through the house and put them back on at the front, in my haste I made an executive decision and light of foot nipped straight through.

On my return, without the spanner , her in doors was waiting in the hallway with not one of her better faces on, she swung open the living room door to reveal in oily prints my route from back door to front on the beige coloured carpet :o

No amount of vanish mouse, carpet cleaner, brake cleaner or anything else would shift it, nothing for it but to put a claim in. Now in almost 25 years we have claimed once, years and years ago, so we felt no guilt in doing so.

And this is where the fun begins,

Firstly a guy must call and assess the damage and the value/size of the carpet, I know lets send someone from Scotland to England to have a look, 400 mile round trip , time on site 15 minutes.

He reckons the carpet can be cleaned cos he tried a potion on it and he'll send someone else but from another company, now if his lotion that he tested can remove the mark why didn't he do all the spots and job done ??

Few days pass and another company rings up,
"we want to send an assessor to look at your carpet"
"will you be cleaning it at the same time ?"
"no just to assess it, oh, your a long way away, we wont be able to get to you so we will send another company instead"

Nothing more heard for a few days, then a phone call
"hello, we have been contacted to come and assess your carpet, can we come Tuesday ?"
"Yes"

Tuesday morning, RING RING
"Hello, we're supposed to be looking at your carpet today but our assessor is sick, can we come another time, we'll ring you with a date"

Few days and no calls, back onto insurance provider, heated call, get it sorted etc, they promise the carpet people will be in touch that day asap.

Next day  Ring ring,

"Hi can we come and assess your carpet ? will Monday after dinner be ok ?"

And so Monday, 2.30pm, ring ring

"Hello, my vans broken down in Bolton, I wont be coming to assess your carpet today"

":mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:***##!!!"

Now I am not living in a mansion with carpets made of rare chinchilla fur, its a normal semi with normal carpets, I pay my insurance premium on time and have done for years, its not the cheapest and its a very big well known firm, scarily my GTi is insured with the same firm.

I have now complained formally usng their complaint procedure, I have spoken to them today after receiving the call at 2.30, if I do not hear back from them today by 4pm I will take the next step to the insurance ombudsman.

The moral ...........

Take yer f'kn boots off at the back door :o

Traction control - sorted ;) 100% parts and labour (£1800) 'goodwill' gesture from VW, think they know it should have been a recall issue but it would bankrupt them .

Someones coming to look at the carpet Wednesday morning  , as for wearing dirty boots in the car do you think Spence still wants my pishy TR7 carpets :D

We had a large labrador who one day strolling through the lounge cought the flex on the iron pulling it to the ground resulting in a burn in the carpet

OK time to clain on the accidental insurance we had with the halifax

2 weeks later the guy comes around and condems the carpet ad beyond repair

Another 2 weeks a very nice letter from the halifax to inform us that they will not pay out as they thing the damage was not accidental but due to neglect by the dog

I called the office to protest at this stupid answer and was advised to sue the dog for damages

Moral of the story the Halifax are a pack of TW+Ts

Consider youself lucky to be alive to tell the story.
If I had done that my balls would be in a jar of pickles! No joke!

I remember doing this when we first moved in years ago. Did the same just nip in and back out again without taking the boots off, but oh dear i got caught in the middle of it .
I wasn`t allowed to `get off lightly` and claim on the insurance i had to go to the carpet place and pay for a new one .
Hence i learned my lesson :D:D
