i know of of few down this way (s.wales)
a black RS2000 custom (no, not mine:rolleyes:) been there 25 years, not rusting away, but just sitting there covered in dust / bits etc
also mk 2 rally car, cracking spec, hasnt done a thing in 20 years
closer to home, a yellow RS2000 custom, 40,000 miles and hasnt been out of the garage except for MOTs, think the car has done about 40 miles in the last ten year, not rusting away, just left there and occasionally started / run, could be for sale for the man with the right money though

i know of lotus cortina mk1 thats been off the road since 71 a couple of lotus cortina mk2s sat next to each other in a shed full of cars and i know of an escort twin cam thats sitting in a garden with the engine and box lying beside it and it has a very very quick all steel burton 2.0 ohc engine fitted.it runs but will never move unless dragged by a tractor.none of the owners will sell.same old story "i`ll get round to doing it up one day" i also knew of a lotus cortina mk1 that sat for years outside.it was that bad grass was growing in the car where the floor had collapsed and the wooden wheel had splintered.loads of people pestered him to sell but he would get angry and abusive.the last i heard he was being evicted and a local classic car restorer came along with a big agle grinder and cut it up on the spot and took what little goodies were left(and the log book of course) and gave him £500 for it.serves the old tosser right.

Know where there is plenty sitting rotting away . Some people think they will live forever :winka:
BJ - the low mileage Gp1 Beige car was offered to me by the owner several years ago. At the time he was looking for strong money, would probably be cheap by today's money
Let me know if the 'other' classics you found become available i.e. TR3 etc...

Needing work
Within a mile or two I know of 1 yellow broadstripe which has been outside (but under a cover/tarpaulin) a guy's house for best part of 25 years, a signal orange/ brown bvr Mexico outside another house but that ones been exposed to the elements for 10 years or so
Minters
A 36000 mile ex Mike Youngs Rs2000 Custom Red with Brown interior, full set of CN36s etc, could enter Autoglm concours tomorrow, hasnt seen light of day for about 12 years. Shares garage space with two other equally desirable Fords.
Reg no 36 PO an EAG 1 used to stay in Girvan remember both those cars well last time a seen EAG 1 was on a mk5 XR31 cab always fancied buying that number but recently saw it for sale at 30K....

What a depressing thread :crybaby:
I know od a 2.8 Granada which I have driven past regularly for the last 15 years.......dumped on the verge of his house. I might try and take a photo next time ;)
The questions have to be asked though.....these people who have them rotting away 'but will not sell'.....WHY NOT? Is it because they think they are sitting on a fortune?.......are they expecting prices to carry on upwards?......are they financially comfortable?......do they not like the thought of someone else owning it?......
There must be loads of reasons I know, but it is mind-boggling. I can understand to a certain degree locking a car away and maintaining it, but not to let one rot in a garden

I know of a mk1 mexico thats been sat outside the owners house since 1989, was still quite tidy when i first asked him to sell in 97. Now the struts popped up into the bonnet. Such a shame :(
Also stumbled upon an Rs1800 in the summer, been in the garage for years ive worked with the owner loads of times and he's never mentioned it or that he was into Mk2's. He wont sell it though thats deteriorating quickly too.
Heres a pic of one i found 15 years ago, wasnt to bad then, but 20years in a quarry on top of a mountain hasnt done it any favours :D

Maybe they are hopelessly disorganised, or is it they just have too much to cope with in their lives. Perhaps they mean to do something about them, but keep on putting it off and out of their minds. Demanding wives, young children, ongoing repairs to the house, and going to work. Any of these reasons would mean not ever wanting to part with there cars, but never ever finding that bit of spare time to give to their hobby.
A mate of mine had two steam traction engines side by side out in the open to the elements for years and when asked what he was going to do with them he replied he was going to do them up one day.....and this went on for years. I don't think he even realised the work involved to bring one back to life again.
So sad to see these rusting cars though.:(
Tim.
Its so frustrating to read threads like these where there are cars just sitting there rotting away. I bet there are loads of people on here who would love to have cars like these in their garage to restore or be using . I know i`m one of them.:mad:

This one if had for a few years and cant get the motivaition to start the resto
Bit like this myself...took mine off the road about 13 years ago as I knew I'd have to repair two small areas on the inner wing rail to pass then next MOT. I didn't want to bodge it and plate over the rust, so it's been left due to moving house and years of major DIY. Other priorities take over too (and work of course) so the time just passes. Years before I'd replaced an entire floor of an MGB, so this job seemed quite tiny and well within my capabilities to do an 'invisible' repair, so it's not like I was overwhelmed by the work.
I made a start earlier this year but my neighbours just had a baby and the only time I seem to have to work on it is when they are trying to get it to bed early evening. :( I don't know how you guys manage or whether you just don't care about disturbing neighbours, but I've struggled to find a time I can work on it (grinding and cutting work). Afternoons on weekends are good if it's cold or raining as people won't be sat in their gardens, but I don't always have chance then myself.
However, I don't see why I should be forced to sell it as it is at least slowly getting done. I'm not daft enough to let someone 'take it off my hands' for a song either. ;) At least once the welding is finished then the mechanical work can be started (brakes, exhaust, cooling) as there's little point doing this (quiet) work until then, so a bit of a catch 22.
At least my garage is very dry and the car is preserved so bodywork and interior is still great (apart from the above welding), just the lack of use isn't helping the brakes, etc but they would have needed sorting even after a few years off the road when I definately didn't have the time.
Cue the :mad::mad: and other comments I suppose, but I'll get there eventually...and then sell it. :p

a mate of mine knows the owner of this mk1 & the anglia super parked behind it, they've been in dry storage since the 1980's or earlier, then around 10 years ago he lost the garage they were kept in & put them in an outdoor compound which he rents. I've asked my mate several times to ask if they are for sale but says he won't sell, so here they are sat outside rotting away along with a load of other cars,:(
