So I buy the "********" car, because of its history, ownership and the genuineness of it, views on stripping to a shell, and painting to a favoured colour ??, Question, because of the interior colour, Signal Red a possibility, but i,m not certain, was that colour available in 79 ?? honest views valued. I feel like British Rail, they claimed they were "Getting there".
My view...if you strip and paint to your desired colour it will ruin an original car , will also affect its value downwards as no longer tallies with VIN/colour plate details or history. It doesn't take much when selling an RS to put people off and something like a full colour change on a nice car might make people a bit dubious. Best leave it for someone who likes beige and keep looking .

I agree with Ruddy on this Ian. Did to one of my old RS2000's went from venetian Red to Black. When it came to selling I had all sorts of problems never mind the price drop. Best keep on looking for the one you really want.

I understand, dont want to sound like a old woman, however starting to grate now. at the end of the day, i,m only waterproofing you guys thoughts and feelings about your own cars. I didn,t realise last year how hard it would be to locate one of these, especially with good money waiting on the table. My mum told me when i was a little boy, it,ll come to those who wait,............ummmmmmmm, how long i,d have to wait, she didn,t tell me !!!

Sorry Ian, Didn't mean to scare you. Just that when I firs saw mine I knew that I had to have it some day. Did take 10 years and many other RS's later. Just buy the one that you want. It'll come up, They always do.
I would hold out for the one you really want , it will come some day , luckily i got mine within a few weeks of looking , didnt really want one with a sunny at the time, but the car was too good to miss just because of the sunroof.
my own personal opinion would be to keep it the original colour, when you are looking to buy such nice car. i suppose if i was looking to buy a car that needed the work doing to it anyway and therefore in a lower price range, then i may change the colour at the same time. Its sounds like you are looking for one towards the top end of the market, if it was me i would wait or be happy with the original colour. - its only my opnion
Good luck with whatever you do .
Didn't we have this conversation at spares day Ian - I thought I set you straight then !
It would be a travesty to change the colour mate and I urge you not to do it.
Ian ,dont know what your looking for but this is on the RSOC BB
I have a mint RS2000 for sale 1980 Custom black, I bought it 1 year ago just before the birth of my son, have been out in it about twice just carnt find the time as far as i am aware it is totally original no rust has even got chassis numbers printed into the strut tops the only thing i have done to it is have the RS alloys refurbished, Its has done 88000 miles if anyone is interested and would like to see lots of pics please e-mail me @ paula@gregwest.karoo.co.uk and yes it has lived in a nice dry garage with a cover over it.

You guys are right, it would be wrong to change the colour, i know that deep down, its just that when you feel your not getting anywhere, you consider all options, and of course thats one, thats the great thing about this board, is that you can share ideas(not always good ones) with like-minded others to get honest appriciated answers, cheers guys, maybe the toffee wagon ain,t coming home after all. SH-T, i better take that ten litres of Signal Red back tomorrow, lol
If the colour is "wrong" for you, just move on.
If you want white, you'll find one, eventually.

its very easy to say hang on till you find what you really want, but when you are desparate, and you have money burning a hole in your pocket, its not that easy......... buy the next good car you see, live with it a couple of years, then keep a good look out for your ideal car, buy that, sell the first one, and bobs your uncle, continued car ownership and a car you really wanted.......

Lee, nice theory, problem is, ive got to give 7k for the first car, and you know what will happen............ the day i buy the first one, the other will come along and leave me with a dilema, I think you have to strike while the iron is hot, otherwise someone steps in, thats the world we live in.
ian i went through the same thing as you, with my tawney one, dont like the colour and even thought about changing it, the arguments were 50/50 some people said leave alone and some peopel said it would make it a better car.
I have decided to sell and buy one in another colour so my tawney ones now sold and waiting to pick my new one up and hopefully will still be able to keep the mk2 and collectt bits as i go and get her done one day.
If you were going to buy the biege one and change colour and never sell her then thats fair enough but if not i wouldnt do it m8 - good luck with what ever you do but from my experience there will always be another car that comes up and allways better than the last the only thing is that the prices are still rising at a silly rate
