Goodluck with the project, should keep you busy a few months anyway.

It will be resprayed in original colour, I want it looking as standard as possible , although ti will have uprated suspension , a 2.1 pinto and 7 inch minilites etc etc :D
Heres a quick update, got a trolley jack and some axle stands so made a start at stripping the sealer off at the front.
Unvieled quite a bit more cancer than was first thought
However its all part of the fun :D.
Had a look at some of the history that came with the car and it says it had a full inside and out respray in 2005 :eek::eek::eek:
Don`t know where it had been kept.
Anyway here are the pics for now

is it not worth buying another shell and cutting it out of that??

You've got your work cut out there m8 i would try escort-tec for the panels
I managed to remove one of the rear arch repair panels today to reveal this !!!!
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z3/washddc/P1010432.jpg
I thought you were meant to remove the old metal before fitting a new bit !!!, Nevermind something else to be fixed :D
Tank well and new inner arches required too

They were going to be putting in the scrap skip !!!!!
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z3/washddc/P1010435.jpg
Thats about as far as i can go for now till i get some panels ordered and a welder organised
Fooooook me that thing is rotten , get a clean 2 door 1100L for £4000 instead and put the rs bits on it (like everyone else does) :D

I would look at reshelling that I'm afraid.........:o
If you go ahead with that shell tackle one area at a time.
All the best, Paul
We have a couple of ozzy shells in stock....
Or we may be cutting one if you want to repair your shell.
ie,
rust free inner wings and "a posts".
Give us a shout tomorrow if you like;)
cheers Darran

We`ve decided to do it in 3 sections, gonna get the front end first then the middle then the rear, not bothered how long it takes really as budget will determine time limit!!.
Want to keep the shell if i can as the rear quarters , roof and floor are all solid , its all the other bits that are crap !!:D

The floor is filthy already !!!!!:D
Hi Mk2 dcc,
just saw your post on my resto, I have been looking at your pics in the last few days & definately go & get a front end from Darran. no disrespect but yours is actually worse than mine was.
Mine really needed a re-shell but I wanted to keep some originality in the car and also the challenge of restoring it.
It would have cost me 5 times more to buy&fit chassis legs, bulkhead, inners, pillars etc. than Darran charged for a mint front end and I shipped it to Ireland!
I'm no expert but the jig I made up worked a treat. I split the a pillars , and around the top of the tunnel, took 100 measurements & levels and when I fitted the new one all lined up perfect.
I got Dave to make up the strut plate with my chassis no.
good luck, I have other pics if you need any help .

Cheers for that, Yeah i want to keep as much of the original shell too and as you say its the challenge of getting it restored. Will be worth it in the end and more of a sense of achievment too :)
Yeah i need to take a heap of measurements aswell etc in preparation but i`m gonna see mark about a front end first :D.

your a brave man there, but good luck with it, I was in the same boat as you mine would have been much easier to reshell, but I couldnt do it, it would have lost all interest with me If I had gone down that route
but it can be done
My pic below is a pretty good indication,
Red Oxide pink bits are original :D

Spoke to Mark from Escort-Tec today so watch this space !!!!:D:D
A quick update for you, haven`t really done much to be honest as i`ve been busy with work and i`m away again tomorrow for 2 weeks on another job!!. We briefly spoke about reshelling it and i was offered a cracking deal from mark at escort tec , but i just can`t afford it so we`re going to do it bit by bit and repair this one. We`re going to start with the rear end now.
Got the rear axle assembly off and boot floor stripped. New rear panel , wheel well panel , tank well panel , inner arches and outer arches to go on and some repairs to the boot floor and chassis legs but nothing major thank goodness. Next job is to buff down the rear legs and underfloor in prep for cutting and welding etc.
A few pics for you

I've got one that looks like that at the mo. What exactly are you using to strip it???? Looking good sir. :)
Easist way is with a knotted wire brush on a grinder and 60 grit paper for the hard to reach places. I don`t bother with brushes on a drill as its to slow :D
Well folks some more work done today, got the tank well out and the rear panel off, to say these had been botched is an understatement, truly shocking repairs:mad:.
Decided now to replace the boot floor rather than try to have 800 pinholes welded up. There is also really heavy and deep pitting so it would probably need doing eventually anyway.
SOme repairs to the chassis legs required but not too bad.
Next on the list is to remove spare wheel panel and then drill out spotwleds in prep for removing boot floor. I also need to clean all the edges up too :)

You are doing excellent work cleaning up the shell. You will get great satisfaction after ripping out all that botched work of the past, when you are replacing it with how it should have been done.

I was lucky i suppose because it was half rotted away in the first place so needs replacing so i wasn`t to bothered about ripping it out. I just drilled out the spot welds that was left and cut a few bits with the grinder and hey presto she lifted off. Not doing anymore on the front for now as we`re starting from the back and working frontwards. But i`ll get to it eventually :D:D
Cheers for all the comments so far lads, it gives me great encouragement :thumbright::thumbright:
Not much progress on the car to report, however been collecting panels.
Picking up a bootlid and a boot floor this week. Just need rear chassis legs and waiting for the welder type person to see when he can come and start :D

to be honest admire your keeping at it, but I think thats a reshell, theres far too much with the boot floor and all, what state are the insides of the chassis rails too !!!
think it would xost more than to buy a shell like the ones a DARREN and Mark advertise
I had a signal green one here and it drove into my garage and looked not too bad, but turn out to be a right snotter rot everywhere not even as bad as your one, it has I believe been reshelled now

I understand what you`re saying mate but i`ve been collecting panels and have decided to repair this shell. It looks alot worse than it is to be honest, if that makes any sense !! :D
The chsssis rails are surprisingly good, a few bits to cut out but nothing major like what the panel work needs

If you look at my "my money pit" thread, I think we have similar projects ahead of us - although there are areas of your shell that look a little more daunting than mine (didn't think that was possible!). All I can say to you is you're on the right site here with some great blokes who will go out of their way to help.
Keep the vision - you sound committed (or should be :D) so go for it bloke and keep those pics coming when the welder gets there........ Good luck!
Cheers for all the positive comments lads, it just gets you down a bit when you can`t make on any progress , especially something i can`t do myself.:(
However just got to keep the chin up and wait for the welder , once we do eventually get started it will come together :D

fair play to you mate to even start to repair it and i hope you get it sorted and back on the road again:D and remember the saying the only 1 you have to please is yourself;):D will be keeping a watch at the thread:D
Well sadly the journey on this one now ends as i am selling the project. Due to financial difficulties at work this year (earnings are 25% down and ive escaped a round of payoffs !!). Also with the continuing struggles of trying to organise the welder etc etc, and as i cant do any of the work myself its time to pull the plug on it:(:(.
Was a hard decision to come to but what we are going to do is put the money into a fund as per pur originall plan and save and purchase a completed one next year :)
I wont be leaving the site or anything , i`ll just carry on as normal but we would rather put the money to save for something rather than throwing any more at something we cant achieve. I hate admitting defeat but thats life and got to face responsibilities.
However hopefull this time next year i`ll be in a position to purchase one for the lakes tour 2011 !!!!! :D.
I`ll be putting an ad in the classified section.
cheers
