View Full Version : Some clown hit my car on Sunday!

Went to the local RSOC show @ Oxton on Sunday & had a great time!

Half way back I decided to avoid the ring road back home. Too boring with too many outside lane hoggers doing 30mph. So thought I'd have a dash back through town instead.
So just 1/2 mile into my de-tour, I'm pottering up a wide main road towards the city. Lots of traffic and a steady 30mph.

Suddenly amongst the many cars travelling in the opposite direction is a blue Corsa.
He's slightly wandering a bit over the white line.
I'm thinking he must be txting or picking his ass or something.
He'll wake up in a second & swerve back to his side.
Then he's wandering well over the white line.
Bloody Hell! The idiots coming head on right at me!!
OMG he's either asleep or tryin to top himself!
This's gonna hurt!!!
Where am I gonna go?????
Luckily there was a bus lane for me to dive into. I swerved out of his way waiting for the bang but praying that he wouldn't go down the side of me.

BANG!!!!!!!

I stopped in total shock & looked round expecting him to be stopped just behind me
He's not there is he:eek:
He's woken up and bounced straight back to his side of the road & ****ed off!

I spun straight round and saw him 5 cars infront. He must ave seen/heard me (you'd ave thought the green had just lit at the pod)
Knowing he had NO chance of getting away, he saw sense & pulled over 1/4mile down the road. I pulled along side and I won't bother type next few sentences. I think you'll have an idea what I said to him..

I parked up properly and gets out the car.
"Are you drunk or on drugs?"
No
"Did you fall asleep at the wheel?"
No
"Then what the fu*k where you doing?????"
I had cramp in my leg and was bending down rubbing it.. Thought I was still going in a straight line...

Result, I managed to save the car from being totalled. But I'm still lumbered with this

I didn't need to threaten him!
My obvious displeasure with very angry red face & smoking nostrils did the trick. That's why he was looking so sheepish..

I was gonna have it tidied up in the next few weeks anyway. So I may well have the rest of it painted now..
I have to get 2 quotes for the insurance.
Im adamant that my mate is gonna repair it. He's very good at what he does.
They wanted to confiscate it off to an approved repairer on a recovery truck. Going by past experience, they are to be avoided at all costs!! Full of young numpties on bonuses who just lash the car together quickly.
And in my case will prob take it in turns to rag it up the road to see how fast it is..

Sorry to read about the accident.:(

Have a look at this one:
http://bbs.rallyesportescorts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36753&highlight=dermot&page=2

This happened to Dermot just before the Lakes Tour this year. On thread No 40 you will see what happened to mine 2 years before that. It's a rotten experience, but it catches us out with out Classic cars now and again. Driving them is part of the fun of owning one, and as with all cars there is a risk. It looks as if a decent panel beater will make an easy job of putting it right for you. You can't turn the clock back so just take care in getting someone to make a nice job of it and then you can get back on the road and enjoy your car again.

Good Luck with sorting it out. ;)

Cheers, Tim.

You dont have to take it to the insurance company's approved repairer. As it wasnt your fault you are entitled to have it repaired by who you choose, but you will have to get several quotes to make sure the price charged is a fair one.

It looks like Dermots damage was virtually identical to mine.. Bad luck with your's too.
Why is it that when you drive something that you dont care about or which is easily replaceable, no-one comes near you? As soon as you're out in something rare/old/special, there's idiots coming from all directions????
Grrrrrrr

Plentysideways..
Yep, doing that already. Also my insurers agreed straight away that I could have it repaired at a garage of my choice. I guess I'm quite lucky in that respect

Mick,

Would you believe it was my second day out in the car after being off the road all winter.....avoiding a busy by-pass in a reasonably quiet 30 mph built-up area!

I think what Aled says about the texting is very near the truth, I wondered if the girl that hit me was doing just that! She said she did not see me, and she was following right behind me......I was right in front of her how could she not have seen me ?????????

Other times some people react all stupid when they see an old car, or can react like "the rabbit in the headlamps", I think!

Tim.

You'll gather from my user name, I work as a cabbie for a living.
Clarkson & co hit the nail on the head a few weeks ago regarding peoples abiltiy to drive well or not.
I love cars & enjoy driving. Because I enjoy driving i like to make an effort & do it well. I'm constantly alert through 360degreees, even after a 10hour shift.
I'm sure most of the petrolheads on here will fall into the same category. However we are all surrounded by a large percentage of roadusers who have no interest in cars or driving at all and as such are rubbish at it. Even though they'll tell you otherwise. It's usually drivers in the later category who are a menace on the road. They pay NO attention to who or what's going on around them.

The powers that be will have us believe that speed causes accidents.

Whats the most dangerous?
1. Someone doddering along hardly ever managing the speed limit & only ever being aware of the 5 feet ahead of their bonnet.
2. A competent alert driver who keeps up with the flow of traffic and maintains progress and probably goes "over" (occasionally:D)

Mick,

I agree with what you say choosing No1 as the most dangerous, and driving with the flow in my view is more stimulating than just crawling along.

I think there are others that are driving right on the edge, stressed up with the pace of life, whether it's work, naughty kids, arguments with the spouse, they are proccupied over some issue in there lives and it takes over from the driving.

Others I notice are very cool showing you how fast their car goes in a straight line, but crap when it comes to a bend or parking the car and when it comes to a passing on a narrow road, they use no skill whatsoever in judging if there is enough room to pass, they just go for it and hope for the best.

not good mate !! had a very similar one about two months ago, wascomig out from truro ona main A road in my firms 17 tonne grab truck straight bit of road , seen this scania 6 wheel tanker coming the other way, started to wander over the center line, like you i though he`ll see me in a minute !! kept coming ended up half on my side of the road  luckily there was a bank on my side so i dived up that& he still hit me full lenghth of the truck !!! i ended up going through the hedge !:eek::eek: he ended up about 300 yards up the road back on his side . when i went up to see if he was ok (he was ) i said wtf were you doing etc , he said his throttle jammed !! any way he admitted it was his fault +three car drivers who had seen it happen said they would be witnesses. any way the truck has been written off & had a letter from police this week saying they are taking him to court for dangerous driving. only bonus from it is they have got me a daf 6 wheel grab to replace it :)04 plate from a v :D

:(What a pain in the aRSe. Lucky the little pick didn't take out the whole side of your car. and sounds like if you hadn't turn round after him he would have just f#*ked of:mad:.said he was rubbing his leg! more like rubbing something else:rolleyes: or txting:mad: whats the law on using cel phones (txting/talking) while driving in the UK? down here after November it will be illegal to use a phone while driving. you can only use one if you have a approved hands free kit and I think that means you can't just put your phone on speaker phone either. get court there a fine plus demerit points on your licence

but like its been said, your ok and the car will be better than ever cos ya can get the lot done;)

I only got mine back the week after ford fair this year, after being hit by a driver that ****ed off, missed every show including the pod, cos an approved insurer took it away, eventually got her back and took it to g.s escorts, after an ordeal with the insurance, then done in a couple of weeks with full paint job, an not jus the wing an front panel it needed, so all good in the end but bloody frustrating with the insurers and the time it took:(

It's alright choosing a good insurance company for ourselves but when someone hits you and you are claiming off their crap company the problems start.

The driver that hit into the back of me had a crap company and I had a hell of a time with them. They tried every trick in the book of delaying it and paying out as little as possible. I Lost the whole Summer season because of it.
