View Full Version : Snowdonia Ford Tour - Round 2

Dear All,
I am currently arranging a North Wales Snowdonia tour for the end of the season. It’s planned for the weekend of Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September 2009. Some of you may recall the previous Snowdonia tour that was arranged in September 2007, by Aled and I. The feedback from that was excellent.
It’s a tour of Snowdonia National Park in North Wales and will consist of the following;
Saturday 12th September:
Meet in the morning at “Cae Gwyn Farm” Campsite, a few miles north of Dolgellau. The farm itself is set in the heart of 190 Acres of a beautiful Nature Reserve, with stunning views in all directions.
It’s a really nice site, good clean facilities, secure and ample parking for the cars, with easy access to Snowdonia National Park.
We will then proceed in convoy around Snowdonia, taking in some fabulous scenery and driving some of the best roads Wales has to offer. We may even venture towards Angelsey (exact route to be confirmed).
We will be stopping off at various points of interest throughout the day, returning in the evening to the campsite for a well earned BBQ and beers.
http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz43/raver1300sport/CaeGwynSpring2008.jpg
Sunday 13th September:
Breakfast at the Campsite, clean the cars, then off for another great day, travelling through Snowdonia and out towards the coast before finishing up at “The Horseshoe Pass” in Llangollen. We’ve picked this as the finishing point for three reasons, it’s a great meeting point, popular with motorbikes and sports cars, secondly, it has fantastic views and thirdly it’s within easy access of the local road networks, eg. A55, M56, M6 etc. See http://www.ponderosacafe.co.uk/ (http://www.ponderosacafe.co.uk/) for more details.
I would like to point out that this is not an organised event such as The Lakes. This is merely a gathering of friends and their Classic Fords for a drive around North Wales. It is not an organised rally. All vehicles/drivers require their own independent insurance policy.
The Cost:
Camping –
£7.50 per adult per night. This is an all-inclusive charge for use of the facilities for campers, i.e. hot water, showers, electricity and Wi-Fi facilities.
Camping Barn –
Those wishing to upgrade, have the opportunity to stay in a converted barn with camp-beds provided. This is limited to 10 persons and will be on a “first come first served” basis.
The cost of the barn is £10 per adult per night. This is an all inclusive fee for the use of the facilities; Toasters, electric kettle, microwave, plates & cups/glasses, cutlery & crockery, refrigerator, sink with hot water, chairs & tables, oven with 4 ring hob, electric heater in cold weather, DVD player, complimentary tea & coffee.
Those of you staying in the barn have the option to cook brekkie with the facilities provided or have a continental breakfast in the Farmhouse for £4 each.
For more information on the campsite, feel free to view http://www.caegwynfarm.co.uk/index.htm (http://www.caegwynfarm.co.uk/index.htm)
***If anybody would like to stay an additional night, either the Friday, Sunday, or both, then please let me know. Im sure this can be accomodated.***

The Important Bit:
*All bookings to be made with me*
Anyone wishing to join this year’s tour needs to PM me via this site ASAP to secure their place. At present it is limited to 25 cars, but depending on interest shown, we may be able to extend this number. Don’t worry if I don’t get back to you straight away.
With the last tour, we did have a problem with a select view who said they would come; a place was booked for them by me, only to cancel at the last minute. With that in mind and an agreement made with the campsite, a deposit of £20 or full payment (which ever is lowest) is to be paid as soon as possible to secure your place.
For example;
1 car, 2 people camping = Total cost £15.00, amount payable £15.00
1 car 2 people camp-barn = Total cost £20.00, amount payable £20.00
1 car 2 people camp-barn with continental = Total cost £28.00, amount payable £20.00. The remaining balance can be paid at a later date.
Any questions or queries, don’t hesitate to ask. Just post on this thread.

Shaun,
It's really a Classic Ford thing. But why dont you come down in the Quattro. You could tag along or jump in with one of us.
Failing that you could come and meet up with us on the Horseshoe Pass on the Sunday.
Let me know what you think?

Hi Dave have booked in at hotel for friday and saturday is there a bbq on sat night cheers neil
Raver1300Sport
13-08-2009, 20:39
Yes there will be a BBQ. You are also welcome to bring your own, disposables are allowed, but HAVE to be raised off the ground.
Bring whatever with you that you would like BBQ'd.
Cheers
Dave :D

There will not be a big communal barbecue to use, therefore individuals should bring their own disposables as long as they are raised off the ground. Individuals to supply their own food and beer.

Dont worry about the bikers! There's bikers every weekend in North Wales. If the weather is good they will be out regardless of a protest or not.
They are proposing a meet at the Horseshoe Pass and Caeryws around 12 midday. From theose locations they are planning to drive west to Betws-Y-Coed for 4pm. We will be travelling through Betws around midday and will be well away from there by 1230. We are heading east towards the Horseshoe Pass with a proposed 3pm finish.
There will be bikers and there will be Police, but we have purposely planned the route to avoid as best as possible folks.

A lot of these bikers are good guys. I stop off at the Ponderosa sometimes and there are always plenty of nice bikes to see, owned by enthusiasts. These guys never fail to come over to look at our cars and they love them. Some having owned an Escort of some description years ago, and they love to tell you their stories about them.
We all have a common interest in the end and that's engines!:D

Re: North Wales Protest Rally
It was brought to our attention a while ago that certain members of the police force had been making plans to disrupt our protest rally. One of their proposed methods was to arrange for vast numbers of very old cars to try and block the roads by driving slowly in front of us.
Fortunately, we gave out misleading details of our proposed route. This had completely fooled them into thinking they knew where we would be, thus foiling them.
Unfortunately we have since been told that Lee Bishop has now been brought in too. Their thinking here was to block the roads with a broken down car. Luckily we had already learned that he has in fact sold his car, so there was minimal risk of this affecting us in any way. However, they have really upped their game plan by now suggesting that Lee Bishop may well be driving an old red car that actually belongs to one of the police.
In light of this information can we just warn all of those attending the protest rally to be on the lookout, as it is now pretty much guaranteed there will be a broken down car blocking our route.

What a brilliant weekend! Fantastic roads, stunning scenery and brilliant weather in Wales for a change! :D I was the passenger in my brother's midnight blue RS2000. Even though I drive a silly arse-engined French car thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle of all those Escorts and other classic Fords. It was just brilliant! And the response from the public was cool too. Special thanks to Aled and Dave for organising a superb event. Hope there's another! :D

Looking foreward to next year ;)

I was going to post last night but I was a little tired after I got back and still recovering this morning.
Must say what a great friendly bunch of people I had the pleasure of spending the weekend with.
Dave and Aled deserve a huge pat on their backs for putting all this together and pulling it off successfully.
Cracking route over some of the best scenery in North Wales.
Special thanks to Louie and Laurence for escorting me back to the campsite on Saturday when I was running low on fuel. Also to Bishop for the donation of food that was desperatley needed when I couldn't get my BBQ going quick enough.
The raffle and auction went well on saturday evening and raised some good money for a worthy local charity, Llanberris Mountain Rescue.
The sights of seeing people standing by the side of the roads and running out of shops during the day times was amusing, standing there completely gobsmacked at seeing such stunning cars.
Many thanks for the award at the end at the Horseshoe Pass, now that I wasn't expecting.
Hopefully I'll get invited back the next time they decide to run it as it must be one of the best weekends I have had this year.

I'm very pleased to announce we raised a total of £465 give or take a few pence. Anyways, I'm rounding this up to £500 and will be sending a cheque to the group chairman.
As soon as I get a formal receipt/recognition of funds received I will post on here.
A bloody good effort by all to raise this amount, thank you once again!

Apologies for the delay, the donation was sent off ages ago, but for some reason they did not acknowledge it straight away and cashed the cheque some months later.
Anyways, the fact is we raised £500 for a good cause and it has helped considerably! Good effort! Thanks to everyone again.
